This is the newest player in the 500-series from Sony... I've just seen it advertised for as little as $230. I was wondering if anyone's heard or seen how good a player it is or if Sony's eliminated the dreaded "lip sync" problem from their last generation of players... Thanks for all your help, Talk denizens...

Sony makes no mention of it that I've seen, but more importantly, it's WAY too early to really know. Sony's previous lipsynching problems typically showed up after several months of use.

Short term performance has always been good for the 330 and 530. Very good video, good build quality and excellent bells&whistles (really smooth scans, jog-wheel, ...). Really a toss-up between it and the previously recommended Tosh2200 for immediate enjoyment.

If you go w/the Sony, try to get somekind of extended warranty. No one can honestly tell you, at this point, that the 560 is reliable and lipsynch free: it hasn't been out there long enough.

Don't be too awed by the name "Sony" - they are just as prone to mistakes (probably more prone) as Toshiba or Pioneer when it comes to the relatively new area of DVD players.
The other forum members were steering you to the Toshiba for a reason: Toshiba players have worked w/less complaints than Sony players.

I just picked up the new Sony S360 and no problems so far. Watched several of the lip sync problem movies and did not notice anything wrong. The 560 is a good deal if you need built in Dolby Digital decoding.
