Onkyo Surround Question
Quick question on the Onkyo 507.
I did the setup, everything is working fine, but I'm confused on the sound modes. I have my BD player, 360, and cable box hooked up to my receiver through HDMI. What audio setting do I use to get the best sound.
I noticed when I played a DVD with DTS through my player that I only got the DTS logo in DTS Surround Sens mode, which the manual says simulates surround through the front 2 speakers.
When I switched to DVD Direct or DVD Multichannel, it sounds fine, but no DTS logo. What's the deal? Which one should I use? It says in these modes that the sound is outputting in PCM. I never saw a Dolby Digital logo either if that matters. Pardon my ignorance in this matter, but even though I have been around this site for a while, this is my first time with an Onkyo receiver. The other receivers I have hooked up for friends seemed much more obvious when you were in the correct mode.

How do you have the outputs set for your players? That's a factor as well. If memory serves, they should be set to bitstream.

Re: Onkyo Surround Question
I have the 507 as well. I looked at the manual and this might be your problem:
Press the [RECEIVER] button and then press and hold [AUDIO] button for about 8 seconds.
Use the arrow buttons to cycle through Auto, PCM and DTS. Make sure it is set to Auto. It may have been set to PCM and that's why DTS or DD couldn't show up.
Like Mr. Salty said, check your player to make sure your sound output in coming through the HDMI connection.
I love my 507. I hear such a big difference between DD/DTS and TrueHD/DTS-MA/PCM 5.1.
