Help cleaning DVDs...?

My brother recently had a fire in his house. It was isolated to his office, losing a lot of electronics including his computer. He has a lot of smoke damage and is wondering how to clean his DVDs? He has a black film on nearly everything in his house including his new Sharp LCD TV. Is there a safe way to clean his DVDs? What about cleaning his TV, does he have to worry about damage to the internal components of the TV due to smoke?
Thanks

Doesn't he have homeowner's insurance?

Water, mild soap for the DVDs. Do not rub in a circle around the DVD.

Yes, internal components of anything can be damaged by smoke.

Re: Help cleaning DVDs...?

yes he does have homeowners insurance, but they want him to try to clean everything before they will replace. I knew not to rub in a circle on DVDs, but wasn't sure if water would permanently damage it. Any tips on cleaning LCD screen?
Thanks

Re: Help cleaning DVDs...?

DVDs are sealed. You can even boil them in a pot of water and they'll be fine.

I would not spray water or cleaner on a TV screen, but you should be able to use it carefully. Spray on a cloth and then wipe the screen.
