This isn't the usual "which one is better?" thread
when i use a PS3, and plug in a USB to watch a movie, the movie plays great and even looks upconverted and is presented in its correct aspect ratio.

Are there any standalone BD players that do this? Even better, are there any BD players that do this and also have Netflix streaming? Or am should I just go along with the PS3?

Doesn't run anywhere near as hot as the TV though.

I believe the Panasonics do this with an SD card, not a USB drive. But they don't have Netflix. Also, if pulling various media from various sources is the goal, PS3 is probably the best choice hands down.

My $40 Philips DVP 5992 does this with a USB stick/drive. Its the only reason I keep the player along with my Sony BR player.
