Need help with BR audio

I recently purchased a Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player and when playing BD discs the audio level coming from my 40" Sony LCD Bravia 40V2500 seems very low. I have to turn the volumn to 50+ to hear at normal levels. This seems strange because when watching programing from my Comcast DCH3200 HD DVR I only have the volumn level at 10-15. Both the S300 BD player and the Comcast box are connected to the Bravia TV with HDMI cables. Do you think it is a audio settings issue with the Blu-ray player or TV?

It may be normal. It's because movies are more dynamic than most TV. I've found that I have to turn the volume up on my receiver higher for BD movies (or HD DVD, or DVD movies for that matter) than I do for TV or video games.

Jim Taylor's DVD FAQ has an explanation about this. It's about DVD soundtracks and analog outputs, but it may still be relevant to your situation:

Many people complain that the audio level from DVD players is too low. In truth the audio level is too high on everything else. Movie soundtracks are extremely dynamic, ranging from near silence to intense explosions. In order to support an increased dynamic range and hit peaks (near the 2V RMS limit) without distortion, the average sound volume must be lower. This is why the line level from DVD players is lower than from almost all other sources. So far, unlike on CDs and LDs, the level is much more consistent between discs. If the change in volume when switching between DVD and other audio sources is annoying, you may be able to adjust the output signal level on some players or the input signal level on some receivers, but other than that, there's not much you can do.
However, going from 10 or 15 to 50+ seems like a pretty big difference in volume, so I don't know. There may be some dynamic range compression feature in the player you could try.

You might want to look for a PCM Downmix setting or something like that in the BDp. They are different from DVD players. Since you are using the TV's speakers you don't need any sort of surround. I think this setting forces 2 channel out of whatever audio track from the disc.
