How's Polaroid as a tv

I not really familiar with polaroid. I just received a walmart flier for black friday and they have a 42" 1080 flat panel for $800. Seems like a really great deal but as far as reliability i have no idea. Just thought i'd get some feedback from you guys on here! Thanks- MIke

Can't comment on Polaroid, but Best Buy is going to have a 720p 42" Panasonic plasma for 899 (I think) on Black Friday.

I'd go with Panasonic over Polaroid for an extra $100.

My understanding is the 1080p isn't necessary on sets under 50 inches.

Polariod is a rebrander, so you will be getting the cheapest panels they could buy that day.

You have to shake it when you turn it on before the picture shows up, but after that it's fine.

Just say no. Even if you have to go a couple hundred more, get the Panny.

How good are they as a camera, their primary business?

To answer X, I will comment on Josh's post....

Sorta, but not exactly from what I understand. They are not really a company anymore. The name Polaroid is now for sale to the, well....any bidder, really.

So, the company making TVs with the cheapest panels has bought "Polaroid", not that Polaroid has bought the cheapest panels.

X, do the math.

Uhh, mentioning Polaroid's current (or even past) camera expertise wasn't exactly an endorsement...

No coverage

I just read an article stating that a Polaroid TV cannot and will not be serviced after the initial one year warranty. According to a Polaroid customer service rep, you cannot buy parts or have the TV serviced "by anyone" after one year.

I would not buy something that could possibly be disposable in one year. If I can find the article, I will post it for you.

I find that extremely unlikely. Please post a link.

Also includes same warranty/no service info on Vizio tv's as well.

You can verify this through Polaroid at 1-781-386-2000

(I found it hard to believe also, I'll bet most people that sell these tv's don't even know this)

That's eye opening Trubiet. We bought our inlaws a 40" polaroid last year and it's already had problems (serviced under warranty) and the service tech was so frustrated with Polariod that he said he was disaffiliating with them after this service.

It isn't if you're sitting 500 yds. away. It is if you're sitting 6" away.

(I'm exaggerating, but you get my point, I hope).

Polaroid makes TVs that are... not very good.

Imagine how many people are completely unaware of this until it is too late. I bet if this was made known by a "salesperson" before a purchase, people would not buy their TV's and they would take more time to research any somewhat sizeable purchase before just jumping on the "It's a great price" bandwagon.

I never understood how people can buy things solely on purchase price alone. (TV's, DVD players, and so on) "Hey I never heard of this but it's $20 I should definately buy it"

Polaroid

My brother is a manager at a box store he told me ..." I wish they would just stop selling that brand at my store " I think that says it all.

Not to mention, every time you turn it on, you have to wave it in the air and wait 30 seconds to get a picture...

EDIT: Oops. Missed Groucho's post.
