I just pulled the trigger on a new TV.

The time has finally come for me to replace my trusty yet venerable Sony KV 36XBR250 CRT TV. I just clicked to order the Samsung HL-T6187s DLP and matching stand from Amazon. When it arrives and gets all set up I'll be sure to post a review and pics. I had narrowed the field down to this one and the universally lauded Panasonic TH-50PX75U 50" 720p Plasma, but after viewing both at BB, and discussing it with my wife (who said "You should get the bigger one." What a woman!) I picked the Sammy. LED light engine, 1080p, piano black cabinet... I can't wait!

Congrats. I got the 56" about a month ago, Its been great. My parents got a LCD the same day for about 1000$ more. It allowed me to get an Oppo, new tivo HD box, and my new HSU sub.

It is a beautiful TV with a great picture and price.

He doesn't need to talk me into buying anything. I told him to go ahead and buy whatever he wants!

I have the HLT5687S and love it. Be sure to check out the firmware version and upgrade it to at least version 1026 or else you will suffer from the "dynamic" mode bug.

Just ordered an Oppo DV-980H... This could get expensive (especially once the format war ends)

Personally, no... but it is somewhere in this beast of a thread over at AVS:

Excellent! [and by excellent I mean utterly slack-filled]

I paid $1989.98 for the TV bundled with the Samsung stand at $249.99, total $2239.97 shipped for that Amazon order. Oppo 980H player was $169.99 shipped, also from Amazon. Since I didn't order it from Oppo, therefore not getting the free HDMI cable they offer, I also ordered two HDMI cables from Monoprice at $15.36 shipped.

I've read about a hundred of the 250+ pages of that thread while researching this purchase and found the link for the 1026 firmware, but after seeing at least two mentions of people bricking their TV with it, I may just wait and have a tech do it if required.

I upgraded mine with no issue whatsoever. It took a total of 5 minutes and is a no brainer to do.

No doubt!

Yeah, I got over the berserker thing more than a decade ago.

Last night I went through the DVR changing my series recordings from the SD channels to the HD channels. Good times...

It's here! I think the delivery dude was as excited as I was. Crikey, this TV is damn_big! (but wonderfully light, especially compared to the 36" Sony WEGA it's replacing) I'm tuning the settings and taking frequent breaks to wipe the drool off my chin. I'll post pics and a review sometime this weekend.

Good news. Glad everything went well with the delivery. Looking forward to pictures and a review!

I have a 36" Sony Wega and I have been thinking of getting the exact same TV you just got. But I'm kind of afraid of buying such a big ticket item over the internet; I'd rather buy it locally from Best Buy or our large regional chain, American TV. But no one will match that price. I guess I'll just wait a little longer.
