Is Sony Vaio PC/TV the very best 22" LCD TV available?
Are the colors and resolution (1680 x 1050) on the Sony Vaio PC/TV as good as it gets for a 22" TV?
I plan to replace my old TV with a Sony Vaio PC/TV. The DVD-player in the Sony Vaio PC/TV doesn't seem to have Dolby Digital. Is it still possible to get Virtual Surround sound to my Yamaha stereo's two speakers in some way (it has no digital jack, only Audio In jacks, L and R)? Would an Audio Adapter function to transform the sound to Virtual Surround? The Sony Vaio has an Optical Audio Output jack. Will the Audio Adapter connect between the Optical Audio Out (or any of its other jacks ) and the Yamaha Stereo's Audio In jacks?

Dolby Digital is not what you want for a stereo receiver. It offers discreet 5.1-channel surround sound. You'd want some sort of virtual surround sound processing in either the TV/PC or in your receiver. Maybe that's what the Sony Sound Reality sound enhancer thingy does.
But I have to ask: Why are you sold on this overpriced Vaio PC/TV? For the $1,900 that thing costs for a 22-inch screen, you could buy a decent PC and have enough left over for an entry level LCD HDTV. You could continue to use your current Pioneer DVD player and Yamaha receiver with no problem, until you were ready to upgrade to a true surround-sound receiver (with real Dolby Digital and DTS).

1. I like the colors on Sony compared to other TVs I have seen.
2. Because of limited space I prefer a combined PC and TV. A 22" or 24" screen would be adequate size.
3. And this Sony Vaio PC/TV seems to have better picture and higher resolution than all of Sony's TV screens of similar size.
