Yes, they are backlit. When the remote is set down, it goes dark, preserving the battery. Once you pick it up, a tilt sensor turns on the backlight.

I just got the 880 and am really happy with it. I just put 6 remotes into the cabinet. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's kind of slippery and a little tough for me to use one handed. I think it would benefit from a rubbery underside.

Where did you get you 880? THe best I found was about $150 from Amazon. I am thinking about getting one for the main TV, and moving my 680 to the bedroom.

I got it from a place called Shipdog.com for $139. One other complaint is that the charger has a really bright blue LED light on it that is pretty distracting. I like that there's a charger, but I'm probably gonna have to cover up the light.

I'm now using my 880 to control:

HD70 projector
same H/K Receiver
same Voom box for OTA HD
same dish network SD receiver
Bravo D1 DVD player
Lutron wireless lights
Monoprice 5 X 1 HDMI switcher
PS3 (well, it won't do anything with the PS3, but it will set up everything else to play the PS3)

Still loving it! And I'm I wouldn't hesitate to get it refurbished. I bet most of those were returned due to a bad cradle, which they just replaced the cradle.

I'd get a 2nd one for a back up, but hoping that they come out with a blu-tooth version for the PS3, then my current one will be the back up.

For people looking for the 880, I just got an email from J&R Audio in NY:
They have factory refurbs on sale this weekend for $99. Price is valid through 4/29.
Don't know if this is a fantastic deal or not, but I thought I'd pass it along if people were interested.
