looking for suggestions on an lcd or dlp purchase

we're looking for a tv in the $2500-3000 range, and was hoping to get some suggestions as to which models are the best, or some info on sites that have ratings to help with the purchase.

we mostly watch dvd's and play videogames. in the fall it will be hdtv football and hockey. thanks in advance for any suggestions or help!!

I totally would help you if it wasn't for my love of Glenn Danzig and everything he stands for.

I've been quite happy with my Sony 42" Grand Wega. The price has dropped dramatically too. I got it for $2300 back in January. It is now $1900. They also make a 50" model for $500 more.

danzig doesn't stand for much, considering that the midget is only 2ft 3".

i got the 50 inch Sony WEGA LCD RP for 2300 at CC back in Jan. The trick was to go to multiple stores (during sale is best time) and haggle with the guy in charge back there. I keep going back to each, and they would give me lower prices each time. Ended up with the TV for 2300, and a free Sony HTIB that was 500 bucks, and a 300$ stand for 100.

I would suggest checking out the new line of Samsung DLP sets, I don't have any specs but I was talking to the salesman who said that the new models have a new chip. Very impressive picture using HD Net as a feed.

BTW, if you don't care about the new chip in the HLR Samsung sets, you can find some really good deals on the last gen HLP sets ($1000 or so less than the new ones).

thanks to all for the suggestions. last night at circuit city we looked at a samsung dlp 50" and it was amazing, though last years model was 56" and $300 cheaper. granted it didn't have the newest features, but the extra 6" does make a difference in viewing.
