Cables question: 5.1 SACD-->Receiver
Hey everyone. I just picked up a Pioneer DV563as, and I'm wondering about the best way to send the 6 discrete SACD or DVD-A channels to my Yamaha receiver. I bought 3 AR stereo pair sets for $37, but I'm wondering if somebody makes a more practical 5.1 cable set with the .1 being more adapted specifically to sub frequencies... hopefully for the same $37 or cheaper. Anyone?

You did the right thing. I don't know if there is a 5.1 set with something more for the sub though. I used 3 sets of AR cables, and use a AR Sub cable from the receiver to the sub. I have the same player too, sounds good to me. I'm sure there is something though.

I just went with the AR pairs. First 3 things I've listened to are Flaming Lips Yoshimi DVD-A, Bjork Vespertine DVD-A, and Dylan's Blonde on Blonde SACD 5.1. All 3 are like a revelation. The new-found depth on the seemingly standard recording (Blonde on Blonde) is incredible... Just Like a Woman is one of the most gorgeous things I've ever heard. And I think Bjork and the Lips surround mixes speak for themselves... I thought hearing Yoshimi and Vespertine through the DVD-V 5.1 was a fair indicator of the primary surround formats' capabilities. Happily I can say I was very severely mistaken. Best money I ever spent.

By the way, I have to gloat since I got the deal of the century. Circuity City had the player for $161.99 because all DVD players above $100 were 10% off this past week. I yoinked the $161.99 tag from the display, and took a weekly ad that mentioned 10% off all DVD players over $100. Best Buy matched the $161.99, then took 10% off it (cause of the ad), then deducted 10% of the difference between that and their $179.99. Final price was about $142. Oh happy happy day.
