Split cable signal to HD and DVR?
We just got digital cable, with one DVR box and one HDbox. We were planning to have the DVR down on the main tv, which is the HDTV, and the HD box just used for digital upstairs, and bring it downstairs when we wanted to watch HD. But the HD box doesn't work right with the upstairs tv [can't see the guide/settings, etc. Picture is ok.] So I thought about bringing both boxes downstairs, so we would have access to both DVR [most often] and HD [would use more if we didn't have to swap boxes] on the same 'main' tv.
If I plug in both the HD box and the DVR box to my tv, using the HD AV source for HD, and one of the other AV sources for the DVR. I'd be using only one at a time, but could switch at will. We only have one cable outlet behind the tv.
Could I stick a splitter in there and split the cable into two, to go
to the DVR and HD boxes so they both get signal at the same time? Or would that degrade the HD picture too much? [distance from wall to boxes would be maybe six feet.]

I don't see why splitting the cable should cause you any trouble.
The HD picture cannot be degraded but the signal strength can be. If you have a good signal already, that short split shouldn't be a problem.
