need help with Sony XBR tv and progressive scan DVD player!

Hi! I just got the new Sony 400 disc Progressive Scan DVD changer. I have a Sony XBR400 HDTV, which is a a 4:3 set with a 16:9 enhanced mode. The problem is, when the TV detects a 480p signal, it defaults to "OFF" for 16:9 enhanced, and I have to go in to the menu and manually change it back to "ON" every time I turn on the TV!! There is an AUTO setting, but it only works for Interlaced signals. Does anyone have a work around for this?

thanks!

Wrong answer! If you do this the DVD Player will output a letterbox picture as opposed to an anamorphic one. Unfortunatly many dvd players do not sent out the 16x9 flag to the TV while in progressive mode (go figure) so you need need to force it with the TV. (often with 4X3 based HD sets)

One thing you might try is set the DVD player for 480i output; I believe your Sony XBR will then lock in at 16x9 and use its own cinemotion/progressive display. On a set the size you have (albeit large for a tube set), you may well be hard pressed to tell the difference between the TV's progressive scan and your player's.

I have a Sony XBR too, so I just programmed a macro into my remote that manually changes the T.V. to 16x9. I leave the DVD player to output on 16x9 all the time, unless I'm watching a disc that's supposed to be full-frame.
