DVD trouble

Hey everybody

I'm having some trouble with my dvd player.

A lot of discs suddenly stop during play.
It's always a certain part of the movie.

Example:
I just bought a brand new dvd...stuck it in the dvd player and it worked fine until the end.
I couldn't watch about 5 mins. of the end of the movie because it kept skipping and getting stuck and it couldn't be dirty or scratched.

I keep using one of those scotch dvd lens cleaners but that obviously isn't helping.

And I just bought my first codefree dvd.
Sometimes my dvd player won't even accept the disc and displays "No Disc..Please insert disc".and when it does accept it it'll only play half of the movie. It'll get stuck after that.
Now my dvd player is not codefree.

I got it about 3-4 years ago.

Should I pick up a codefree dvd player?
Do the newer ones read the discs better?

Help me out!

Also...I live in Germany at the moment.

So I can't order any of the players from bestbuy etc.

I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
Patrick

Given how old your player is, I would say it's time for an upgrade. The newer models can handle just about any disc you throw at them. That wasn't the case 4 years ago.

So what would you suggest getting?

I was looking at the Panasonic progressive scan model..(especially the S35)

But I haven't found an online store that ships them to Germany.

And if I buy it here then i can't play my US dvds(I have all US DVDs) because it's not available as codefree.

What would you do?

How good is the x-box as a dvd player?

All I'd have to buy is that kit.

Most of those questions I can't help you with. Don't know too much about players in or for foreign countries.

I haven't heard much in the way of good reviews of the X-Box as a player though.

oh ok....

Well maybe you know of any online shops that do international shipping?

Which dvd players under $100 would you recommend?

Thanks

You could try Amazon.de .

They have plenty of multi-region players for under $100 to tide you over. And it's Amazon for Germany. Shouldn't have to worry about international shipping then.

Looks like they have the Panasonic S35 as well (although my German is very rusty ), $141.

Oh ok..I'll check that out.

But the problem is all the name brands don't have codefree/multi-region players because I don't think it's allowed.

I can't get that panasonic s35 because it won't play my US region 1 dvds.

and see I'm kind of hesitant to get these types of players:

I've never heard of those brands.

Hmm...what shall I do...

You could try to post a question over in the International DVD section. They might be able to help you out. Other resources could be:

www.hometheaterforum.com
www.avsforum.com

Good luck!!!
