Portable DVD Players... Need information, reviews, and recommendations

Has anyone else found that information about Portable DVD Players is pretty scarce on the web? I know it's a niche market... but I can barely find any reviews on current models.

Basically, I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive player (sub-$400) with good (as good as possible at the price range) LCD output, battery life, and playback of multiple formats (e.g. CD-Rs, MP3, etc). I've looked at the Apex and Initial models from Circuit City, but I always hesitate when buying from non-name brands.

Can anyone direct me to an excellent source of information, or maybe even provide some personal recommendations? I've already searched and read the posts here on the subject, and what I've found so far has been helpful.

Thanks!

www.cnet.com is always a good place to start.

I've had the Initial 7" for a while now. It's pretty good for the price. The picture is pretty clear in my opinion. I've had no problems with it at all. Not too sure of the battery life, since I usually use the car adapter that is included with the model. The sound can be a bit quiet in noisy situations, so headphones are needed for some places. I like it for a cheap portable...

If it's still available, the most recent Sound & Vision magazine had a review of a Samsung (I believe) portable DVD player. They really liked it. I'll look around for it...
