surround speaker installation on a 12 foot ceiling question
My house is currently beginning construction. The ceilings in the living room are going to be 12 feet high. I am going to run the speaker wire before the drywall is put up but I have not decided where to put the surround speakers yet.
I do not want the speakers to be 12 feet high so what is available to drop the speakers down to 8 feet or lower?
It is an open floor plan so the back of the living room goes into the kitchen area so there is no wall to mount the speakers onto.

If you can’t (or don’t want) to use the side walls, there aren’t a lot of options. Personally, I don’t see a problem with a 12 foot ceiling mount—most mounts/brackets allow one to angle the speakers toward the listening area. Several of my friends have similar installations and they sound fine. If you want to drop mount the speakers, no doubt you can adapt or build a mount to accomplish that goal, but this approach may not yield an aesthetically pleasing result—if you care about such things.

I had the same problem...my living room is a living room/kitchen so it's very open and has a 24 ft high ceiling. I just mounted the speakers on stands...it does seem possible to wall mount the things, or even put them on the ceiling...12 ft isn't too high, but you risk some sound quality.
