I have an old sony sorround sound home theatre system and every time I put a cd in the cd player it plays for awhile then a thing comes on the display and says protector and there is no more sound? Does anyone know what that is? Or how to turn it off?

Not a clue and I have CD players since they first came out if it was DVD I would say copy protected. I own Pioneer F-1007 300 + CD juke boxes, and a old Pioneer PDF-904 this is only 100 discs sitting in the back of my closet.

One thought does it 'act' like a surge 'protecter'. It sounds to me like you have a problem that won't be worth your taking it to a repair shop. I bought my last Pioneer F-1007 at $249 for holding 300 with remote and amber lights on the GUI. The rates repair shops are charging are rediculous IMO, which makes throwing it away and buying new your best bet IMHO

Good Luck I hope you find your problem, I have 2 of those Pioneer models I mentioned, both no problems I bought in 1998.

Not sure but I think with Sony that means you have a speaker wire crossed or some similar problem with the amplifier section as opposed to the CD/DVD.

Sounds like there is a short somewhere.

I would check to be sure your speaker cable is not frayed or touching and that the connections are clean and tight.
