Problem with my reciever.... help?

I just recently bought a home theatre system, which included the STR-K840P sony reciever. I can get surround sound working on it, but no matter which audio option i choose on the dvd (such as DTS, dolby digital) only the "PRO LOGIC" icon will light up on the reciever. There are places for DTS and DOLBY DIGITAL to light up on the reciever, but they do not. I have played with some of the buttons, but have not yet figured out what is happening. Could it be because i connected the coaxial cable from the dvd player to the reciever as well with the A/V cables? ..... OR could it be a problem with my DVD player..... which is 1-2 years old. IT says it can do DTS and Dolby Digital, It also has those light up icons. But no matter what option i choose for audio on the DVD, it just lights up the dolby digital icon. I have tried playing a DVD through my playstation 2, and choosing the DTS, but still, the PRO LOGIC only lights up.... could that be because i connect the optical cable from the PS2 to the reciever as well with the A/V cables.......... any suggestions?

Are you using optical or coaxial? You mention both.

I guess is that you setup your receiver to use the regular A/V inputs for DVD (probably the default setting). Unplug the A/V audio cables and see if you get any sound (the digital connection should be all you need). Check your manual to see how to switch audio inputs.

Too many buttons

I had that same problem linkoaljara. I just figured out I had to set the DVD player audio to Bitstream.

I just bought my first reciever (Panasonic SA-HE100) and there are a few questions I have about it. I have it connected with a fiber optic cable to my DVD player. I read the instructions, but they just tell me that the reciever does these things, they don't tell what they do. First of all what does the "Enhanced Surround" button do? I turn it on, and I notice no difference in sound. Also, what does the "Dolby Pro Logic II" button do? I have no clue what that is. Also what does the "NEO-6" button do? Also, there is a "DVD 6 Channel Input" button and I can't get sound to come out of the reciever when I press it. I have 6 speakers connected to it. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not really sure about that one, maybe someone else who owns that receiver will be able to help...

It should turn ProLogic II/DTS Neo 6 mode on and off, both will work with any stereo source. Try them both to see which one you like more - I usually use PLII instead of Neo 6.

You need to have something connected to the 6 channel input on the back to use that input. I use that input for DVD audio but before I had a DVD-A capable player I never used it.
