Avia & Video Essentials with missing color thingies?
A local store has used Avia and Video Essentials DVDs cheap but they don't have the inserts...the colored plastic things you look through to callibrate color. Are these DVDs worth anything without these plastic thingies?

They're worth something. But you won't be able to adjust color and hue adequately without them.
Maybe you can call the disc manufacturers and see if they have replacements. VE only comes with blue, doesn't it?

For Avia, you can also use higher quality photographic filters available from many camera stores:
Deep Red Tricolor #29
Deep Green Tricolor #61
Deep Blue Tricolor #47B
These will provide better color separation than the color film strips included---though of course at a higher cost. And if you do any B&W photography, these are nice to have anyway.
Edited to add:
Yes, VE only comes with a blue filter.
