Decent Universal Remote?

I need a little help. I am trying to find a remote that works with my $30 Aiwa DVD player I use as a spare in my bed room. I have a Sony Wega TV, and a Sony VCR, and that Aiwa DVD player. On all sony (any brand for that matter) say it wont work with Aiwa DVD players. Any suggestions? Looking for around $30. I already have that $200 touch screen Sony one for my HT

Radio Shack has some excellent bang-for-the-buck programmable/learning/backlit remotes. The one that sells for about $30 is excellent.

In your general price range, I would definitely go with the Radio Shack 15-2116, or the All For One URC 8811 or 9810...

Check out http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/forums.cgi for specific questions. You might even be able to get confirmation about your Aiwa codes first...

I usually buy my All For Ones online from J&R... www.jandr.com

I heard that the Radio Shack 15-2116 has "limited memory".

Is there a fixed limit to the amount of commands it will take (or is it the type of command), and if so does anyone know roughly how many commands it holds?

I'm looking for something to handle the basics:
Receiver: volume, switch sources
DVD: play, pause, forward, reverse, audio, subtitles, menu
TV: on, off, volume, pip

and I really don't want to drop $100+ unless I have to.

The RS has plenty of memory for those functions (and more). It just won't have enough to learn tons of individual buttons and/or long macros. Most universal remots have volume punch-through and the main controls are thru the device code. Then it doesn't take much memory at all to put all of the needed commands (the ones you mentioned above) on one device so you never have to switch.

I think a discontinued Cinema 7 would also do the trick if you can find one. I use 2 of them at home (1 for the main HT, one for the bedroom system.)

The Cinema 7 was my fave for a long time, I wore out a couple... Are people liking the newer models too? I don't read much about them in the forums yet...

I used to have a Cinema 7 also, but I think it broke, damn roommate breaking it. I will look into that and see if it works with my Aiwa. I would really like a Sony Remote though, is there any way I can 100% find out that it doesnt work with Aiwa DVD player, which is owned by Sony

You can always try it and then return it for a refund if it won't control your components. I tried a couple of remotes and returned them because they didn't do everything I needed them to do.
