Yep, I remember the first time I heard that on LD (I assume it was Clear and Present Danger) and I was just blown away. I didn't have any AC-3 equipment back then either. Scared the crap out of me with that initial thuderclap! I have to say that damn MGM lion from the intro on their earlier DVD's gets me scrambling for the remote as well.

I loved the intros of DD laserdiscs because they really seemed to knock you out of the seat

I think I need to fire up my laserdisc player this weekend and watch a few of my lasers

You know when I go back and watch a LD I just cant believe how bad it looks vs. DVD. Now I remember how great it looked vs. VHS and Beta (yes Beta). I have Star Wars CE and it looks like VHS now.

There are many things that can be done to improve the laserdisc picture, starting with getting a good player.

An anamorphic DVD will be better, yes, but I watch most of my laserdiscs on a 75" screen to very pleasing results.
