DVDp problems...getting worse?

Is it just my black colored glasses viewpoint of the world, or are DVDs and DVD players getting LESS compatible? 3 and more years ago there were all sorts of problems with certain players not playing some discs well. Or at all. The Matrix comes to mind. This was annoying to those it affected, but somewhat understandable due to the newness of the technology. But since I got my first player 2 years ago, I haven't had any problems.

Now there are Dolby EX issues with some receivers (I know, that's not with a DVDp), LOTR EE issues, Goldmember, etc. Seems like they've regressed the system to worse than it has ever been. I'd say 2002 is the worst year of DVD compatibility yet.

Anybody else getting a Windows95 feel from recent DVD releases? (ie, more faulty than its predecessor)

Personally speaking, no.

I have no problems with my LOTR EE or any of my other discs for that matter.
