I already have a DVL-91, CLD-406 and a CLD-570 (euro model) and around 400 Laserdiscs, but I...don't...think...I...can...help... myself...
The guy (that works at a neighborhood hardware store that I shop at a lot and who I've known for some time) told me that he would bring in the player & discs tomorrow morning, and that I could take them all home and test the player and scan the discs for rot, BEFORE I PAY ANYTHING!
Now I know that player is just a 'base model' & includes that 'Crappy-Okee' feature (& two mics), but...the temptation may be...too great...
...common sense failing...logic leaving...
What would YOU do?

The D504 is a pretty middle-of-the-road LD player. In itself, it's not worth more than $50-60 used.
Depends on what the discs are, I suppose. If there's anything interesting in there that you'd like to own, it's probably worth it. If it's a bunch of common movie-only titles that have already been released in superior editions on DVD, probably not.

Ya know Josh, I wasn't going to pay more than $50 for that one, and just told Treesa (my wife) that I feel a little uncomfortable paying that much for a no frills/no digital field player.
But...I suppose I could always use it as a spare, after the other 3 kick the bucket!
I kinda see it this way:
$50 for 1 player
$50 for 40 discs
Heck, if I decide to buy 'em all, I can always sell the dupes and get a store credit, or cash, or both and maybe even make a small profit!

He gets off work at 2 today, so I'm gonna follow his arse home and pick it up from there.
There were a total of 42 discs and honestly, most of them REALLY SUCKED DUST, but 7 were quite cool, and so I kept those.
I took the remaining 35 to a record store that buys stuff like that, and out of those they bought 16 and gave me $37 in cash.
Now, I'm gonna return the 19 they didn't buy (and I don't want) to the guy because they are either dupes, scratched badly, have laser rot or just plain SUCK-ARSE.
That said, now the deals only worth $75 to me (since I'm returning like 19 discs).
So, out of the $75, I can subtract the $37 in cash I made selling 16 discs and end up paying a GRAND TOTAL of only $38 for the player AND 23 discs!
WELL!
After all is said and done, that sounds like a GREAT DEAL to me!

I FINALLY got my hands on the player and it's in Truly Excellent condition. He said that he bought it New and that it was rarely used and well, it sure looks like it!
It is QUITE CLEAN, INDEED!
When I told him $75 for the lot he asked for $80 and I said, "...Oh...all right..." and flipped him the ol' as I begrudgingly handed over an extra fin. &
I used it for like 6 hours last night and a few hours today and everything's working just fine.
That 'Crappy-Okee' feature is more fun than I thought, especially with all that (((REVERB))), and now I've decided to audition for American Idol, ASAP.
So, adding that extra $5, I ended up paying (as GRAND, GRAND MOTHER of ALL TOTALS) $43 for the player & 23 discs!
