Please help with tv/receiver hookup.

I am having trouble hooking up a tv to a receiver. The tv is an older model 52" sylvania (model ptv380-a001) and the receier is a technics. The tv has a pair od "system audio out's". I hooked those up to the technics inputs but don't get anything? I know the rca's are good and I am hooking it up correctly as far as the receiver goes. Just not sure about the tv. It has 2 inputs on the back of it but no other outputs. What else could they be for????
Any advice is appreciated.

You might have to turn on the audio output somewhere in the TV menu. Some TVs need the speakers to be turned off before the output sends out a signal.

Icculus has probably diagnosed your problem. One item to check; if your tv audio outs are fixed or variable. If the output is fixed, all volume control will rest with the receiver. If the output is variable, you'll need to set your tv volume at a fairly high level and then control with the receiver volume control.

I agree with Icculus and pmreed.

Turning off the speakers is the most common solution when people attempt to connect their TV to a receiver.
