Progressive scan or not to progressive scan?

I'm considerring getting a new DVD player, and was wondering if the extra money for progressive scan is worth it. What does it actually do, anyway?

Do you have a TV that can take a progressive signal? If so I'd say there's no question. Progressive all the way.

Oh, and this thread should probably be in the hardware forum.
