Is it more important to match the mains with the rears or the center?

I will eventually be purchasing new mains for my setup. About a year ago I bought a center (polk 245) and rears (polk R10). I now need a good pair of mains, but I am not sure which ones I should go for. I want to stick with Polk, and I want them to match as well as possible. My problem is that my center and my rears are from two different lines. The two speakers I am considering are the R40's, which would match with the rears, and the RT35i's, which would match with the center. Is it more important to buy mains that match the center, or the rears? or will any speaker of the same brand sound adequate?

If you have to choose, IMO you are better matching the center and the front speakers.

The center... absolutely.

You will have better luck with the mains matching the center, since you plan to stay with Polk. However, some manufacturers' lines do have significant differences.
The best advice? Talk to a dealer who is familiar with Polk, but above all else... audition your potential new mains with your existing center.

IIRC, the R40s will also match your center. Just to add to the pile, the center more important to match.

I also have the cs245 center and R10's for rears, I use the rt600's for mains (match the center), and am very pleased with this set-up.

All three up front should match. Ideally they should all match but that is rarely possible.

No you are all wrong! You should match the SUB

(center is most of the dialog, so matching it makes pans of sound best, for the most part try and match the tweeter when sticking with a brand some brands have many different tweeters and this is the most noticeable area when looking at matching)
