Tevion MD7794 DVD from Aldi - problems

Greetings from a DVD newbie -

I bought one of these $99 specials from the local "Aldi" store, as advertised in their flyer. In general, it appears to be a well made product, with lots of features for the price -- including MP3, built in 5.1 / DTS decoder, etc.

I'm currently having a problem in that the DVD player seems to be sensitive to IR interference from other remotes. For example, when I use my Tivo remote to adjust the volume on my Sony TV, the DVD player goes to the setup menu. It also appears to react to various buttons on the remote that controls a Yamaha receiver.

Just wondering if anybody has similar experiences or may have any ideas. I called the Tevion service center, and they have offered to swap the unit out, but didn't offer much hope that it would fix the problem.

Thanks!

I called the Tevion service center and they acknowledged that other owners had the same issue, and there was not a known fix. Anybody else have any ideas? or should I try and return it....

You mean you got it from the Aldi grocery store? I need to go see if my Aldi carries these. $99 seems like a great price for a DVD player with on board decoders.

Yes, the Aldi grocery store.. Every week they have "Special Purchases", which are non-food items (toys, tools, electronics, etc). This was on the November 1 flyer, but my store still has a bunch.

I just stopped by there and verified that I can return the player, since I don't think there is a fix to the problem I'm having with the IR control.
