Using Component Video Hookup

I pulled my question out of another thread where it got buried:

When you hook up this way you watch your DVD on the video input channel (usually one of two, eg. AV1, AV2)...If you use regular RCA jacks to do this, there will be one for Vid, one for L. Aud and one for R. Aud. If you use S-Vid then that replaces the Vid. but it is usually tied to AV1 or there are 2 S-Vid's, one for each. My question is, if you use Component Video does that work the same way...ie. is it tied to AV1...doesn't seem to be marked and there is only one set so it can't be both ...I would think. Thanks. John

Still not clear on the answer. Is it tied to only one input? How come not specified like S-video? Thanks.

Are you talking about hooking up your DVD player to your TV using component video out? If the TV supports this, then it is usually a separate video input.

Are you talking about a particular TV model or just in general?

Yes I am...exactly.....I know it is a seperate video input....question is: which audio input is it tied to?? In general the S-video is labeled that it ties to AV1 or there are 2 .. one for AV1 and one for AV2. Component Video outputs don't seem to be marked that way (on many different models), hence the question. Thanks.

My panasonic uses video 1 as the component input. If you use regular composite inputs it will say video 1 on the screen, however if you are using component cables the screen will read component. What kind of TV do you have??

RF
video 1
video 2
video 3

RF
component
video 2
video 3

I don't if this helps you:
I have an RCA TV with 2 AV inputs 1 (channel 91) & 2 (channel 92). To use the S-Video I connect the cables to Input 1 and have the TV on channel 90.
I'm not sure what else you need to know.

I would be using a Sony KV-32FS13. Probably similar I would guess.

I have an older model Sony. On the remote, there is a button that cycles the inputs TV/Video 1/Video 2. The Video 1 can be either RCA composite or S-video. Video 2 can only be RCA composite. However, the S-Video input has to be enabled on a setup menu. otherwise video 1 only works as RCA composite.

I am guessing that the Sony operating menus haven't changed much and you need to go into setup menus and turn on the component inputs (it might give you option of assigning to either 1 or 2). It is also likely that you have to turn on the component outputs on your DVD player. Both are likely to require finding the manual to get instructions or being willing to experiment a little.
