Need Advice On HT Equipment And Progressive Scan!
I need some equipment advice for a basement home theater I'm putting in. The TV is a Sony KV-36HS20, and I want to use the component connections with this set. I currently have a Yamaha DVD player which has component outs, but it doesn't have progressive scan. I was thinking of teaming this up with a Yamaha 5280 or 5460 receiver. However, I'm also considering getting a new DVD player and a new receiver -- and I would like them to both be the same brand. I see that Sony has a couple of progressive scan DVD players for a reasonable price, but I haven't dealt with Sony audio components before. I currently have Yamaha and Denon equipment.
I would like to know if progressive scan is the way to go with this set up, and if so, what equipment recommendations do you have? I'm just starting to pay off the TV, so I don't want to spend too much!
Thanks for your help!

I purchased the new 700P progressive player from Sony to go with my 36XBR400.
IMHO, a 36" TV is simply not large enough to see the benefits of progressive scan. At around $300.00 it is a great player but I would not expect great things.
Progressive images are best viewed on large screens, the larger the better.

Based on consistent comments I read at another forum, the Panasonic RP91 seems to be the most popular quality-oriented progressive scan dvd player on the market. You may want to research that one.

If you are buying a new receiver and DVD Player, why do you want them to be the same brand? There are no benefits to buying the same brand with these 2 components.
Buy the brand you like foreach component.
Denon makes a very good progressive scan DVD player, and they make some great receivers.

Also check out the MALATA DVD player http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=129307. The Panny RP91 is also good.
