need a dvd player compatible w/ all formats!
Hi there, I currently have a Sony DVP - s560d but I think I'm going to sell it and get a new player. I love my sony unit, but it doesnt play cdrs. I have been burning lots of vcds and cdrs lately and would like to play them in the dvd player. However, since I'll be buying a new unit I would like to get one compatible with as many formats as possible (ie. mp3, cdr-w, mpg?, sacd?, svcd, hdcd?) how many formats to current players support and what are some good models for not too expensive that support most of these formats? BTW, I am looking to spend around $200 if possible....more if need be. 5-disc changer would be nice if it wasnt too much more expensive...
Thanks guys.
PS...if anyone is interested in buying my Sony unit let me know!

I got a Panasonic RV31.
It supports CD-R/CD-RW/MP3/VCD for as low as $170. The quality of CD audio playback is excellent for the price.
They also make a 5 disc changer (CV-51) that you can get for just over $200.
It also supports the above formats.

ive been doing some research on the web...
i really liked the panasonic dvd-cv51 5-disc changer...its not too expensive either.
here are some other options ive seen so far...
Kenwood DV-505
Toshiba SD2715
RCA RC5910P
Apex AD703
I dont know about the Apex model...it plays lots of different formats, but i dont know about the quality...
The main things i want are cdr-w, vcd, svcd, and mp3 playback....if possible in a changer.

Check out www.vcdhelp.com. Lots of player reviews and specs. I would recommend the Pioneer DV-343, but it doesn't play mp3-its plays everything else though.

the only player that i am aware of that supports all of the formats you list is the new Philips (which is WAY beyond your price point) but just for grins, you might check out the review in the new issue of SGHT.

I picked up the Apex Ad-3201 recently and it's a dream player.... It plays everything and has some nice features for a 129.99 player. Optical TOSlink output, component video output...
It is a step above the AD-660 i currently own which is also a dream player. These things play anything you throw in them, ranging from DVD's to the cheapest CDR media you can find. If you are looking for a inexpensive player that plays virutally every format imaginable...i'd go with Apex.

I am looking for a new player. Looking at the Sony DVD-NS400d. But i hear things about Chroma bug on Sonys. I hear Panasonic is good. Apex i hear doesnt have optical out. I saw this Apex at BB today, small in shape. There is a Sony DVP NS500 V coming soon, which does everything and dvd audio for $300( i am planning on a price-match) . I wish i knew the exact release date.
SHould i buy:
1. Panasonic DVD RV31K
2. Sony DVP-NS400D
3. an Apex model?
looking to spend no more than $250. Please HELP!!
