shield/non-shielded differences

Other than how far they have to be from the TV, do the two effect any other type of equipment that you would have for your system? And are the two different in that, say 'one system from Sony would work best with shielded speakers, but not with Panasonic', is that a difference?

A shieled speaker is just magneticaly shielded so you can put it close or on top of your TV. There is no other difference than that between shielded and non-shielded.
