Good Magazines for HTH?
If I go to the bookstores, do you folks have any good recommendations on books or the serial mags that might help me get a handle on a lot of the basic stuff for HtH

I think the best are Perfect Vision and Stereophile Guide to Home Theater. Both of these run in depth reviews and interesting thought pieces. Widescreen Review is also good, but less to my taste.
