The SC-AK48 is basically the same as the SC-DV1, except that it doesn't do DVD. and I've got some experience with the SC-DV1.
For music, it didn't sound bad, because the left and right are bi-wired, 4 way speakers. The center is a tinny 2 way, and the surrounds are even tinnier 1 way, and the amp had less power for the other speakers. Because of this, dialog on the center channel could be overwhelmed by general sounds out of the left/right channels.
I think the SC-DV1 used the same bad design for DVDs as the A110, because it started having problems reading certain DVDs after about a year, rapidly getting worse. Between that and being unsatisfied with the center channel, I upgraded to something more standard recently.
You probably won't find an inexpensive universal remote that can handle this unit, though. The SC-DV1 remote generates 57 different IR codes, and of these, the most any of the device codes for a Cinema 6 was able to preprogram was 10, with another two possible from a different device code. It didn't use normal IR codes for most of its functionality.
The unit runs hot. If you leave it on, even if it isn't playing anything, the top will be rather hot to the touch.
The disc changer is slow and noisy, even worse than my CD jukebox.
So, it isn't bad for music, but I wouldn't recommend it for home theater, unless you're not very picky. I was happy with it when I first got it, because I didn't have to worry about compatibility between components or anything, and since the unit is all in one, it is simpler to operate. I just outgrew it.

Thanx a lot, i might reconsider now. The thing is i have only £220 to spend max, so my choice is very limited. IT dosent have to do souround sound or anything, it dont have to play dvds. Just something cheap and cheerful would be good. Any suggestions?
I come from the uk so keep that in mind.
