Those of you who have a regular TV set, what is your sharpness setting at (full,100%,etc?) On my Toshiba i have a bar with the greatest sharpness (max) all the way on the right. Is it best to have it maxed out? or to have it halfway at 50 %. Just wanted to ask all of you. I have the contast and brightness set, now just wanted to see what was the norm when dealing with the sharpness control. Thanks.

There is no way to answer this. You need to get Avia (preferred) or Video Essentials and adjust it yourself for your particular set.

Sharpness should be almost off for DVDs, but it varies from TV to TV.

I adjusted my set with the Video Essentials
disc. My sharpness was almost all the way
up when I started, now it is on zero. Picture
does look much better after doing the
adjustments though

I agree, my sharpness is all the way off, before I sat down with video essentials it was about 3/4, and now I see why they have to move it way down.

You can't make blanket statements about where the sharpness should be. Using Avia, my Pioneer RPTV needed to be all the way down and my Wega needed to be at about 50% to be perfectly adjusted.

On some sets the sharpness setting is "off" only when it's set at 50%. Settings higher than that add edge enhancement while settings below that level use a softening filter. This is a point that is very often overlooked. Cranking sharpness all the way down is not always the best solution.

With Avia, mine is set to about 30% on a 32" Toshiba

ILikeDVD, I'd suggest you find a copy of Avia or Video Essentials and use that to calibrate your TV. If you don't want to buy a copy (runs around $40-50), your local video stores may have copies for rent
