I just recently picked up a Pioneer LD-V4400 and a few discs to play around with. Are there any good FAQs out there? I know the player that I got isn't the best for watching movies but it does the trick and wasn't too expensive but I wonder how much of a picture difference there is with some of the nice consumer players. I picked p a One For All remote in hopes of being able to use it with the player but I can't get it to work with it. Does anyone know where I could get a cheap remote that might work?
So far I have picked up the following:
The Incredibla Hulk Returns
Captain America the Movie
Batman WS
Batman Forever WS
Superman The Movie WS
Meatballs 2
National Lampoons European Vacation
Star Wars WS (Last CLV release of the original)
Star Wars Empire Strikes Back
A Very Brady Sequal
Back To the Future Cartoon Volume 1
Fletch Lives
Too Wong Foo WS
Time Cop WS
I have some more on order as well. The Superman and Batman ones were part of a package deal with the Captain America and Hulk discs. I am trying to keep my LD collection to items that are either not on DVD or have inferior DVD releases. I might keep the Superman one since it should have the original music. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

There was a website that dealt in remotes, but I can't recall what it was...perhaps a search?
THe best source for info on the remote is alt.video.laserdisc
With LD players, higher end players DO make a lot of difference in the video quality since it is an analog format.
Any other questions, feel free to ask. Or if you need a spare Under Siege II laserdisc (I have 45 of them). A few of your discs are Sony American pressings, which means they may be rotted or speckly. You can tell if it's a Sony pressing by the bar code on the inner hub and the letters LVDC or LDAC or something like that. Sony laserdiscs really suck dead bunnies through a straw.
In my spare time, I sell laserdiscs...and used to hang out all day long on alt.video.laserdisc

Randy,
Can you give me a short summary as to why you pray to your Under Siege II LDs.
If I could come up with some more money I'm thinking of getting into LD for obvious reasons...should I not pick up Under Siege II on DVD.

Theres nothing you can do about that unless it's a
dirty disc (clean it). If it's an older film and the
speckles are white it's probably just in the film
element. If it's a newer (or older for that matter) film and the speckles are multicolored then you've
got laser rot, it'll only get worse.

As Rand says..multi-colored speckling is laserrot. This is caused by the internal aluminum layers coroding. This was discovered after laserdiscs were in production for years and were believed to be almost indestructable. A good pressing plant will not have those problems, but some pressing plants, like Sony America were notorious for bad quality control.
Some better players handle speckling better than others.
