Okay, we're going for 7.1 channel surround. The unit being used is the Pioneer Elite VSX-35TX (best HT purchase ever made). We're also going with a 10X 2 channel amplifier to power the extra rear channels, problem is what kind of rear channels? Our room geometry pretty much limits us to in ceiling speakers, or wall mounts (ceiling prefered). The setup as it is now is 5 Paradigms (Monitor 7's, ADP ###, and Best Center they ever sold), so we want to stick with Paradigms, but which ones? I've seen tons of thier in ceiling speakers (5 models) and have also considered something from teh monitor/performance line. Just don't know what would sound best back there. I figure the ceiling mounted would be ideal (you have to see the room to understand), but let me know what you think.

There's some pretty big ugly pictures of the rear of the room at http://www.filebox.vt.edu/users/bradgows/index.html , if it helps...let me know how you think we should do it?

I would go with the Monitor 5's or Mini Monitors. They are from the same line as your Monitor 7's so they will be timbre matched to them.

The Monitor 5's have the same driver configuration as the Monitor 7's. They are bookshelves instead of floorstanding. I think they would look and work the best. Put them on some nice solid stands behind you on either side of the doorway.

The in ceiling speakers would work, but I don't think they would sound near as good as a pair of Mini's.

You also say you are going to use a 10x2 amp to power them, is that a miss print?

If not you may want to get a more powerful amp

Well I looked at your HT and you don't have much room at all behind the couch so I have revised my recommendation

Have you thought about getting another pair of ADP 350's and putting them on the wall behind the couch to either side of the doorway? Put them at the same height as the others on the side wall. That would give you a minimal amount of lost space while also providing much better sound than in ceiling speakers.

If you can do that, that would be best. If not still try to squeeze the Mini's or Monitor 5's on stands back there!

Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestions. I definitely have to go with some type of wall mounted or ceiling mounted speaker. Do you know if the Mini-monitors are capable of being rear mounted? If they can be placed directly against a wall it would be possible to build a shelve system for them to keep them up if not wall mounted. Also, with the ADP 350's I wasn't sure if this would be a good route to go because I want definite direction in the sound coming from the rear. I was afraid that a pair of dipoles would kind of diminish this effect and kind of lose the whole 7.1 experience.

Anyway, as far as the 10X 2 amp goes, that's actually a model number from the Pioneer Elite line. It's a 100x2 amp. Kind of misleading if you're not familiar with the Pioneer line-up. Sorry about that, and thanks again.

The Paradigm Mini's are rear ported so putting them on a shelf against the wall wouldn't be the best placement.

I am sure it would work though, you would just have to try it and see if you like the way it sounds.

You could also just plug the port and see how that sounds!

Turns out we ended up getting a sweet deal on a Sony 10HT so the audio upgrade is going to have to wait a while. There's something about a 92" HDTV plugged into a progressive scan dvd player that out weighs an extra 2 channels of audio. Thanks for the help though, I'm still going to use your advice for reference later when a few dollars roll in again.
