Another option to consider, though I don't know practical it might be....contact the manufacturer of the set. Explain the issue and that the set was given to you (reason for no receipt). I had a similar issue with a box set years ago that contained 2 of one disc and none of another. It actually took me writing to them (and I was fortunate that I could include pictures of my multiple discs) but I had an entire new set at my doorstep within days of sending the letter out. If you can get a hold of the right person, it might be that you can get the set/missing disc you want for no additional expense and complete the agreed-upon trade.

Thanks for comments so far. If the trader doesn't like the "negotiate again" idea which appears to be popular so far, I might try this.

On a kinda funny note, I just replied to the trader about this, and the "negotiate again" idea, and saw in my comments from earlier in the trade that I had asked to check for a floater and they did, which is of course funny since there was no way there could be a floater in there! :lol: Hilarious, I guess :shrug:

Edit: The title was Mother Night, one of the New Line assortment, it's a snapper.
The last time I had a problem with a dvd it was also at Big Lots last month-ish when I bought The Dish, also a snapper...hmmm. Opened it to find there is a huge piece missing, the disc kinda looked like a rough pacman shape. The missing piece wasn't even in the package! Someone put a completely broken disc back inside and sealed it up, or it was broken in manufacturing, do people put these discs into the cases or does a machine do it? WTF!
The only other time I ever remember getting a dvd with nothing in it, was either Force 10 From Navarone or Heavy Metal 2000, which is why I have those complete cases in my master trade list. Both of them might have been missing their disc, but I seem to remember one of those just being defective. I got both of those from Columbia House, and they usually just let you keep the defective disc.

^Honestly, I think you should ship your part of the deal. Many people are asking for sealed copies, so there is no way for the person to check the condition (or lack of dvd in your case). This person did everything one should do when making a good trade and in no way is responsible for the missing disc. At the very least you should ship back the dvd (case) and reimburse them for their shipping costs.

^ i concur with dino. imho, this is similar to a situation where usps screws you by destroying your package or losing your item. as long as it is apparent that other trader did his/her part, how can any liability/blame be put on him/her?

it sucks, but it unfortunately happens. buying anything is a potential issue, especially when you complicate the process by trading too. if at all possible, try to return it for the same or comparable title at your local big lots. on a note of silver lining possibly, its only a maximum potential loss of about $5.

That is the current plan.

Negotiate another deal for something he has I want with the same $3 value. I'll send my part of the original trade his way with the empty case, and reimbursement for the difference in shipping altogether (he shipped 2 packages, I shipped only 1). He can return the bad copy and get his $ back, get the initial trade item, and a refund on the extra shipping he paid to get the trade completed. He seems pretty much okay with this, as per his reply so far.

This does work out even for him still, right? I'm only out a little for shipping reimbursement (like $2), but I'll also have something to show for it.

Something I'm not thinking of?
