not sure if it's that great a deal since it's being re-released but there's a used copy of Flash Gordon at Secondspin.com for $40.00
http://www.secondspin.com/buy/CollDt...3&sr=51&er=100
I guess that if someone uses it, they can just quote this and say it's dead.

Well, there have been several people posting deals from SecondSpin, and they go dead pretty quick. I'm not sure if it's lurkers or someone not even from the site, but if it is lurkers who are not playing by the "Treasure Hunt Rules," then that sucks for us.
I propose that anyone who finds a deal at SecondSpin from now, just posts it as spotted, and doesn't divulge the location until someone claims it, so that we can get the credit for the "find."

In other words, secondspin should be treated EXACTLY like a brick and mortar used dvd store in one's home town.
A seller is not going to get a Treasure Hunt sales credit by simply listing a disclosed Secondspin disk as spotted and saying, essentially, "go get it." Nor would that seller get a TH credit by listing (without revealing the source) a secondspin disk as spotted and then when someone expresses interest, telling that interested party to go get it at secondspin.
I hope that makes sense. If not, please ask questions.

Of course, even if the person spotting the sale would not disclose the location right away, it would still be on the honor of the person claiming it to say whether or not he actually got the deal in time.

Issues of authenticity in the process I described are no different than in any typical brick and mortar Used DVD Treasure Hunt transaction. We expect any seller to have a good faith belief that it is authentic, but, as you mention, some are very difficult to spot. There could be no 100% guarantee.
Regarding shipping, that is indeed an additional cost of the product and could be added and passed on just as tax is added in a brick and mortar transaction, if the seller wished to include it.
The way I described it is the best way to keep the process in line with the operation of the rules as they were intended. I see the potential for far too many problems doing it in a "there it is - go get it fashion." Next up, people would be posting or directing people to ebay listings.
Publicly posting the location of the disk at second spin or wherever accomplishes nothing, due to the fact that anyone viewing the thread could go get it outside the operation of the process here. And let's talk about the last problem you cite: The disk is listed as spotted with no disclosure of the location. Someone claims it as interested. Seller then e-mails potential buyer the link at secondspin. Buyer buys it at secondspin, but tells seller that he was too late and didn't get it. How would you be able to prevent that situation from happening? I can't think of a way. There's no way the seller would be able to prove that the buyer bought the disk he spotted. I have no desire to play referee for such situations.
I'm not in favor of changing the process as I described it. However, if drjay or drgerbil (essentially co-chairmen of this whole thing) have a different opinion, I'd be happy to hear it.

Title: WWF: X8: Icon vs. Icon
Status: Spotted at Electronics Boutique
Total Price: $8.99-10% EB discount card I have+shipping+tax
Availability: available
Disc Condition: Used
The box and cover art looked pretty banged up. I have no idea how good the discs are, but I know this does go for some money on the secondary market, so if anyone wants it cheap I can get it for them.

Title: 12 Monkeys (DTS) Out of Print
Status: In Hand
Total Price: $9.84 Shipped via 2 day U.S. Priority ($5.99 Disc price plus $3.85 2 day priority price)
Availability: Unclaimed.
Disc Condition: Good - disc played.
Notes: Case is in reasonably good "used" shape. There is a little sticker glue residue at the top of the plastic sleeve that could be cleaned off - no damage to the paper liner. Insert is present. One tine is missing off of the disc holder, but the disc is still held in place well.
This is a very cheap way to complete your 12 Monkeys collection to get the DTS mix that is missing off of the recent re-issue of this title.

Title: Toy Story 1 & 2 2-pack

Total Price: $ 26.99 (Used Price) + 2.60 (Tax) + Actual Cost (Shipping)
Availability: Unclaimed
Disc Condition: Used - Case looks like it is in good shape
