A few ?s about ch.com -

1. Do you get funcash there like the other clubs?
2. The selections available for enrollment, are they the same, limited, selections you see when you preview them (before signing up)?
3. How much is Supernanny Season 1 at ch.com (my wife is really interested in that one and it is $11.98 at the regular club, but with shipping it is almost $18)?

1. Yes. And funcash used at CH.com gets free shipping.
2. I believe so, yes. The enrollment selections for CH.com are very limited compared to the regular DVD club.
3. 4449708 Supernanny: Season 1 is $17.99. Nearly all titles are 40% off list price, a few are a bit more off.

For most things, CH.com isn't a very good deal, especially compared to the regular club. The main advantage of CH.com is the lack of hassle compared to using sale offers and optimizing memberships in the regular club (although free shipping on sets can be useful at CH.com). Certain low priced sets can be a decent deal, although they can sometimes be purchased for less at DDD during a 20% off sale.

to me ch.com is the only one worth it anymore. No stupid cards to send back, no dancing around to get deals. After Columbia House fully caught the BMG disease, with rip off box set shipping, they just arent worth it for me anymore.

I have tried to sign up for CH.com twice now, and both times the pending charge has expired, and I haven't heard anything at all about being accepted or declined. WTF?

Well for me i had a problem with cC i used not being accepted so they sent me an email with that number to call them ...

but i had applied online and in a couple of days i had an answer from them ... i was even able to log in and order some stuff but once they realised i did that i got locked out ;( now i have to wait for the new CC i gave them to process ... then i can continue ... the CSR said within 48 hours i should be okay ...

Unfortunately you were wrong on question 2 Lizard. When I previewed the selections (before signing up) there were probably about 300 to choose from, but when signing up there were only about 100. And of course the 3 or 4 I had narrowed it down to from the preview selection were not part of the enrollment selection. Oh, well.

Interesting. Thanks for letting us know the selection is worse than it looks once one actually begins the sign up process.

There never were any "cards" to return. Director's Selections can be declined on-line and it has been this way for at least six years.

Shipping for box sets can be rather high but if one just adds the cost to the listed price for the set and subtracts fulfillment credit, if any, such sets are usually cheaper in the regular club. This is especially true for sets priced at $39.95 and up. Sets priced below $19.95 probably are a better deal at CH.com but such sets can often be purchased inexpensively elsewhere.

This focus on shipping costs baffles me. Yes, we used to get free shipping on box sets and now we can't (usually). Paying a higher price to get "free shipping" from CH.com seems counterproductive to me. Last I checked, a fulfillment credit in the regular club was worth about $14. That's rather more than the highest shipping cost ($7.99).

CH.com is much less hassle than the regular club. But, for the vast majority of titles, it isn't cheaper, despite the free shipping.

A CH.com account is a useful thing to have around for certain lower priced titles that are never available for enrollment (mostly sets). It is also helpful for impluse shopping, when working to get the lowest possible price isn't worth the trouble. But for bargain prices, the regular club is still best.

Here is a total WTF email. I sent them a note asking what's up and why I am not getting accepted and why I don't even hear anything about being declined, and they replied with the following:

Has anyone been accepted for a new membership at CH.com since BrentLumkin posted that rejection e-mail a month ago?

I applied a few days ago (never had a ch.com account). I haven't gotten an e-mail acceptance, but a second $9.95 charge did hit my CC yesterday, which is usually good news. I'll post again if I get anything official.

I applied the first week of February, had a temp charge on my CC but never heard anything and then the charge dropped off. About a week a ago, the charge hit my card again, got an email with my account number, and I've since received my 2 selections. I can't believe it took a month but at least I'm a member now.

When Brent posted this thread I signed up and was accepted in about a week. What was neat is that two titles Jacknife and Last Light (which I wanted) were on pre-order for $5.98 and counted as fulfillments.

Just to follow up, I did receive the acceptance e-mail yesterday for my ch.com account. Didn’t do anything special, so just another CH mystery I guess. I'd try e-mailing them back, Brent, saying you know CH.com memberships are still being accepted. Just weird.

Over a year ago I was thinking about getting a ch.com membership but wanted some verification as to "enrollment titles" so I sent customer service a email asking for a list. I got a SNAIL MAIL package a month or so later with a catalog the size of a regular CH mailing with selections and an enrollment card. I did not sign up at the time, but I've been considering this again and will probably try that route since the on-line selections are reported to be slim.

On a related note:
Does anyone know if it is it possible to join without making a choice of enrollment titles and then picking from a catalog later?

possibly over the phone. I don't really know. But there is no option for that on the website.

How many dollars in fun cash do you get with each purchase? Does the $10 limit on box sets still apply when redeeming them?

Same as with the regular club: $2 per DVD (or set) after the two required fulfillments have been purchased. And the $10 limitation of Funcash used on sets below $39.99 is also the same as in the regular club.

Unlike in the regular club, one doesn't get any double or triple funcash sale offers, of course.
