I just did one last Wednesday, got approval on Friday. I got most of the "controversial classics" set (all but Advise and Consent which I'll get later) and Star Trek: Insurrection.

Here's what I got:
Star Trek: Insurrection Special Edition
The Americanization of Emily
A Face in the Crowd
Bad Day At Black Rock
Blackboard Jungle
I am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang
Fury

Since they don't have it, it looks as if the 10th Star Trek movie will be the only one I don't get from CH as an enrollment.

I'd been wavering on the controversial classics--they sound interesting but are all blind buys, so CH was just the ticket.

Edit: This is my second account. I have one I've been keeping open just to see what they have.

Edit 2: I think I used one of the 1K* codes. I have tons of PSNs but since the PSN codes are the same offer, I didn't bother looking one up.

Thundercats WAS available online amongst the enrollment sets... I know others that had this problem simply called a service rep and told them it is available online in the enrollment section, they got the discs shortly after... although I hope I dont have to put up with that

Order 7 using that code and you get them for $12.xx with only two more to buy. The 8th disc at $9.95 doesn't affect fulfillment so it doesn't make sense to order it.

it does when the cheapest place on-line for any of them is $15....

No, it doesn't. Why pay $9.95 for a DVD that one can buy for $5.86 (or less when free shipping is on) in the next membership? Best to order "bonus" discs only when they reduce the committment.

And when one is interested in purchasing a set that costs more than $60 as a fulfillment, it is best to skip the first $9.95 bonus DVD so that the membership requires three committments.

I currently have 1 DVD Club and 1 TV-DVD Club membership and have never been able to get another DVD Club acct. started. I tried a few times online and nothing came of it. I moved in July and both of my accts. are now at my new address. A couple of nights ago, I thought I'd try making a 2nd DVD Club acct. After submitting the application (I opted for pay now by credit card), I notice an authorization for the amount $12.89. I realize this is normal and it doesn't neccessarily mean that application has gone through. Last night I noticed a new $13.95 authorization in addition to the $12.89 -- the lower amount is without sales tax and at an 8.25% rate, it seems that this higher amount would be with sales tax.

What are the chances that this most recent application has gone through? I have not yet receive a 'Welcome to the Club' e-mail. I submitted the new application on early Wednesday morning.

^The fact that they did a second charge including sales tax seems very encouraging. If the temp charge becomes real it is very likely that you are approved.

If you have trouble with getting approved for on-line applications, you should try enrolling by phone. Those of us who have had many accounts before get much better results on the phone.

Success! I just got the 'Welcome' e-mail a couple of hours ago. I used one of the 1k* codes and ordered the 1st $9.95 selection. Both of my earlier accounts remain unfulfilled and I have 'til next April to complete them. I signed up for both in Spring of 2004. I had the standard commitments deal (5) on each of these accounts and recenty purchased a few using the BOGO offer and FREE shipping w/ 3.

DVD Club (3 commitments remaining)
TV Club (5)

2nd DVD Club (2)

Just got approved for yet another HDL... that makes at least 9 of those that I've done (since I started counting). This one took about two weeks before I got an approval email... I was surprised. I thought it had slipped through the cracks.

Recent Enrollmentns

Took me a while but I finally decided on my second enrollment:

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...And Spring
Oldboy*
City Lights*
Dances With Wolves SE
Rope
A Tale of Two Sisters*
The Loss of Sexual Innocence*

The starred are blind buys. Rope is almost a blind buy as well as I only saw part of it on tv when I was in high school over 10 years ago. I almost got Barry Lyndon instead of Tale of Two Sisters but figured I could pick it up for

Christmas Enrollments :)

Did a 1kj order on Friday the 11th, and got my welcome e-mail yesterday (Wednesday the 16th). Anyway, this whole enrollment is purely for x-mas presents.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fel 1 selection $0.49
The Lord of the Rings: The Two 1 selection $0.49
The Lord of the Rings: The Ret 1 selection $0.49
Cheech and Chong's Next Movie 1 selection $0.49
Things are Tough All Over 1 selection $0.49
Festival Express 1 selection $0.49
The Wiggles: Magical Adventure 1 selection $9.95

and I fulfilled with webdvd and buy 1, get 60% off + $10 funcash for order over $50 (I was gonna use the buy one, get 65% off, but I figured I pay $1.60 more and get $10 funcash, and yes I know funcash isn't that great, but if I transfer the $21 in funcash I got on this order to my ch.com account, I can get a free $19.95 movie)
Scooby-Doo! and the Reluctant Werewolf $19.95
Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School $4.98
Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood $5.98
Scooby-Doo! Meets the Boo Brothers $5.98
Scooby-Doo! in Arabian Nights $4.98
Robert Rodriguez Mexico Trilogy $17.46 <--good fulfillment, $23.46 for 3 movies (says 17 because of webdvd)

Total account comes out to 12.89+62.90=75.79/15=5.05/DVD or including a free one from funcash would make it 75.79/16=4.73/DVD
The 5.98 ones up there actually raised the per DVD price, but since they're gonna be x-mas presents and I'm not gonna be doing another account before then, I figured I might as well throw them on there

The Aviator
Hitch
Steamboy Director's Cut
XXX: State of the Union
Boogeyman Special Edition
In Good Company
Assault on Precinct 13

If you're a frequent purchaser of family titles, the 65% off code is quite good, since there are so many 14.95 and under family titles.

I just fulfilled with that code, and tacked on 17 such titles, all $5.23 or $4.98, with free shipping, and earned $36 in FunCash.

Maybe not the absolute cheapest way to go, but convenient, and I can use the FC on not-yet-available for enrollment titles.

Regards,

Tufnel

I used the 1kj last Friday and got my enrollment package today. As always, I used the "bill me" option. I hadn't been getting approved lately with the older codes, but this new one worked the first time.

I GOT:

Enter the Dragon: 2-disc
The Big Red One: 2-disc
Citizen Kane: 2D
Alexander: 2D
Spaceballs: 2D
The Upside of Anger
Constantine: 2D

I love getting 2-disc special editions for 0.49 cents each!!!!

Just preordered War of the Worlds Limited Edition for $22.95, for a $25.94 total. CH is just as cheap as everyone else on this title.

Some questions about CH.

1. So I see the movie deal is buy 5 at $0.49, then you only have to buy 5 movies at $19.95, but if you choose a 6th movie for $14.95, you will only have to buy 4 more for $19.95 + s&h, but since you picked out the 6th one, its free s&h for the first 6 (the 5 for $0.49, and the 1 for $14.95). Am I correct?

2. Once this process is done, is my account done? Do I have to make another one?

3. I can't see what the actual prices of the DVD's are. Are the new ones way past $19.95 just so they can get more money? Or most of the movies set at $19.95?

4. How much shipping per $19.95 dvd or more?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Thanks a lot in advance,
1. If you use an offer code (see the similarly titled thread at the top of the forum) you can get 6 @ $0.49 each, + 1 @ $9.95 for a toal of 7 DVDs, and only need to buy 2 more. That is a far better deal.

2. Once you buy the 2 commitments, you may cancel at any time. Most here do just that and then typically open another account and get 9 more DVDs for the price of 2 1/2.

3. Newer titles are usually $19.95 as pre-orders, then typically $21.95 after that. Older titles can be $19.95 or even $14.95, but only $19.95 and higher qualify as a fulfillment/commitment purchase.

4. Lately shipping has been free if you get three titles. So most people order the two commitments, plus throw in a third cheapie (which you will get at 50% off) to qualify as free shipping. Otherwise, shipping is $2.99 for the first title in an order, and $1.99 for each after that on an unfulfilled account. Fulfilled accounts get $0.99/title shipping. Again though, lately shipping has been free.

There are a couple of sticky threads at the top of this forum that go over this in much more detail. All in all, you can save an incredible amount of money over buying most anywhere else, as little as under $5 per title. That beats Wal Mart bargain bins for price, and my latest membership includes titles such as Polar Express, King Kong SE, and War of the Worlds -- hardly titles you will find anywhere for $5 each shipped.
