I know this has been talked about before, so I apologize if this comes as a repeat. I did a few searches and did not find anything.

More and more I am receiving movies from CH are not factory sealed and missing inserts. Two of them that I ordered from the Action Sale (Chronicles of Riddick, Starsky & Hutch) were not factory sealed and missing inserts. I knew they were missing inserts before I opened them, they were lighter than the other movies, and they didnt have any factory stickers at all.

I am having them sent back as replacements (defective), but I am curious as to what everyone else thinks about this problem, and of a better way of resolving it.

I think they maybe not including inserts in future pressing..I got Starsky & Hutch ..not from CH and it didn't include a insert..

Certain Studios don't always use security seals on their DVDs, for example Universal and Dreamworks (but the shrink wrap on Dreamworks DVDs has a "water-mark" stamp on it).

Inserts have been disappearing from many DVDs for some time now. This has nothing to do with Columbia House; these DVDs are new and factory sealed, but not intended for a "brick and mortar" store. Occasionally a non-new DVD is sent out by mistake, but this is rare.

More and more studios have done away with inserts. Warner(Starsky and Hutch) and Universal(Riddick) are two such studios. The way things are today, I'm actually surprised when there is an insert. Even Warner has stopped including inserts, even on their two disc special editions(Heat, Goodfellas, etc).

Universal titles (Riddick) no longer come with inserts (unless it's a catalog title and an old pressing). Warner titles (Starsky and Hutch) no longer come with inserts. So, you're sending back DVDs that aren't defective and you're going to get the exact same thing in return.

Paramount, Universal, Warner = no insert.

I'm sure there are other studios as well but I think that's the big three.

There was no choice there for missing item, so it was either lost, wrong item, or defective. Defective seemed like the most appropriate choice.

Why does that bother you?

Was the movie scratched or damage in any way?

I received some that did not have security stickers or inserts but I don't care just as long as the movie costs me $4-$5 each and the movie is not scratched.

It doesn't bother me if that was the way that it was shipped from the factory. I have received movies from CH before where discs have been scratched, fingerprinted, etc. I was unaware that this was shipped factory sealed with no insert, or I wouldn't have posted this thread.

Previous problems with CH prompted me to react this way.

I ordered The West Wing and season 1 did not include an insert, while seasons 2 on did, and they were all sealed/new, so I assume it's a manufacturer's thing. I'm certain season 1 would have had one, as the box covers don't list the contents of the discs, so an insert menu must be included

I feel the same way. If you're ordering "new" title then it should be the same as if you were to have bought it from any retail store or online. The whole lack of inserts cheapens a dvd set and makes it seem bare. When you open it up and all there is inside is the disc(s). Cheap Bastards!!!

Youre getting vitually all DVD movies for $6.. You want the inserts, then go pay $15-$20 per DVD elsewhere !

People complain about lost shipments, webpages with glitches, CSR's with attitudes, LOST INSERTS, lost applications, dvd's that MAY be rewrapped. Its all very comical. If these issues cant be dealt with, pay regular price or buy your movies previously viewed at blockbuster. Amazing.

99% of the DVDs that I get from CH are new with the factory seal on top. The very few that did not have the factory seal appeared to be perfect(no fingerprints, no scratches and an insert was included if there was supposed to be one). Bottom line, everyone knows that you get 10 days to return the introductory package if you don't want to remain a member, so you should be willing to accept an occasional rewrapped DVD as long as it is in mint condition, IMHO.

Not to mention those DVDs don't come with an insert no matter where you buy them. What do people want? CH to design and manufacture inserts themselves?

I've gotten my share of DVDs loose inside the box, dented slipcovers, etc. (which are hazards with any mail order store) from CH. But I just accept it as one of those things that go along with the unmatchable prices that we get.

those DVDs aren't rewrapped. A lot of their Dreamworks, Universal, and New Line titles come that way. It's because CH gets totally barebones DVDs from them that don't have security stickers, security devices, promotional material or even the sticker label on the top. The shrinkwrap is even flimsier material. However, it's still brand new (I received The Road to Perdition the day it came out cuz I pre-ordered it and it was like that).

I was speaking about sets in general these days. A lack of chapter list makes the standard dvd cases useless. Why is there a place for an insert if one will not come with it. Besides, if I sign up to a club like CH then I should get the dvd as I would if I were to purchase it from the store. It sounds like some of you are willing to accept burned dvds or other second hand crap to be part of the club. I think if I pay money whether it is 6 or 16 dollars then I still have a right to a decent product. And you know that a lack of materials (inserts, ads, etc.) bothers you. Pretty soon dvd companies wil just start shipping out the discs in an envelope with the title stamped on the envelope. And after the headache I have gone through today with CH and my bank in attempt to recover money that CH has claimed on my account but doesn't belong to them, I'm not so sure the club is worth the hassle.

CH isn't for everyone. I like the club, and I just recently flipped my 90th account. The selection isn't as good as before, but the price is still the best.
I've had only three problems with CH.
1) I received two enrollment packages. (they told me to toss the extra package)
2) My order of Scarface had the 2-disc and not the gift box. They shipped out a gift box and they told me to toss the extra DVD.
3) They over-charged me $5 once. I let it go. (No biggie)

I cant let 24.90 go. Especially when they can't see what they've done wrong on their end.

The discs that CH carries are the same that are in stores. If a dvd has an insert, then the CH dvd will have an insert. The only difference that I have experienced between store bought dvds and CH dvds is the lack of security stickers. And I consider that a blessing.

I completely understand what you are saying and agree with that. My complaint earlier was the fact that companies in general are now going cheap on us and throwing the disc in a case with a cover. How hard or expensive is it to throw a chapter insert or some kind of information booklet in there? I was rather dissappointed when I bought Shark Tale and all that was inside was the disc. I at least thought that Dreamworks would try to make it a decent overall set to try and compete with what Disney gives us. The inclusion of something like this might be minor but it I feel that I have the right to say something about it. I go back in my old dvds and there is an insert as well as the movie but when I open newer titles there is only the disc staring back at me. Why don't we stop putting instruction booklets with games since most people dont read them anyway. Although I don't read 90% of them I still want them with the game. I know there are others that also don't like the fact that companies are getting cheaper and cheaper on production costs but still charging the same average price for discs. These cheaper production costs are also leading to more defective discs in sealed packaging, fingerprints on brand new discs, and loose discs in a set that shouldn't allow this. Matter of fact a lady bought a sealed copy of The Notebook the other day and guess what was inside? Nothing at all.

That is completely incorrect. The overall price for DVD's even in the regular stores have dropped dramatically. How much profit do you think CH can possibly be making $6 per DVD SHIPPED to our door?

Are you buying these movies to watch on your television or read the inserts? Do you need an instruction manual on how to insert the DVD into the player ? Special features are ON THE DISC, not on a piece of paper. If this is too much to handle go back to VHS movies. lol

Kudos to the companies that continue to put out an overall excellent dvd package and a big thumbs down to those that slap a disc in a case with cover art. An insert does not make a dvd but it does make more of a complete package. My gripe is not with CH unless they are not putting inserts in with discs that normally come with them. My feeling is you should get a factory issued disc and all whether or not your buying it from CH for 6 or CC for 16. Whom you buy it from or the price you pay should make no difference at all in what you get as a product unless you are buying it used and accept it the way it is. If you are a collector you should be concerned about these things especially if you ever try and sell them in the future. And don't feel sorry for CH about their low prices because they are still making tons of money. They probably get the discs for cost or maybe a bit more and then turn the profit. They have deals made with these companies in advance probably for x amounts of copies of a certain title for a certain price. This allows them to distribute them to us the public for a rockbottom price. They don't have the overhead costs that big retailers do to provide you a place to buy them (although they do have expenses) so therefore they can sell you a bulk number for x amount of dollars. They take this into consideration when you sign up for so many at pennies and then have to buy 3-5 down the road at regular price. This turns out to be a better deal for all of us and at the same time they do quite well as a company.

Collecting? Sell them down the road ? what the ???

Do you know in 2 years these DVD's are being replaced with discs that are actually Hi Definition ? We're all buying new DVD players and replacing many of our movies.,, AGAIN.
