Best code to use for a new account?

I cancelled my last CH account about a year ago. Of course, I don't have any PSN to enter. What's the best way to start again?

i think ddl and ddh are your best bet. I had a friend start a few months ago with dec, but that's dead now i think.

You might find some more info in this thread: better code thread

That "last account" IS your PSN. Why wouldn't you use it as such?

Like I said, it's been a year since I cancelled, I have no idea what my account number was. Is there an easy way to find this out without being on hold with a CSR for an hour?

Any old invoices laying around or old e-mails left in your inbox from your old account?

I paid my old account via CC, so no invoices. Of course, the other part of my master plan was to eliminate all email evidence as well.

In a word: Yes. There is no need to wait on hold when calling Columbia House. Please check out the Phone Queue Bypass thread.

So, call CH and ask them to look for your old account (they can search by name and address) and give you the account number.

Even when you pay by CC your order comes with an invoice of the titles you ordered.

Those are called receipts. Invoices are to be paid at a later date. If I saved every receipt I've collected over the last year, I wouldn't have any room for DVDs.

Since you are picking nits, here is this from dictionary.com:

in·voice Pronunciation Key (nvois)
n.

1. A detailed list of goods shipped or services rendered, with an account of all costs; an itemized bill.

Anyways, I save 1 of those things, whatever they're called, from each account so that I have account #s, etc.

If you remember your login just goto the webdvd link and it'll reactivate it so you can get your account number.

Depends on how he cancelled though, correct? I cancel on the web and I used to be able to reactivate them, but not any more.

I say best bet is to call customer service. They'll ask you for some information to ID your accounts and then they can rattle off any rshowing in their system. It really doesn't take that long.

I recommend a spread sheet or something to store this info. I was able to recover old fun cash, use it as a list of available PSNs, among other things.

I tried that and nothing happened. Have you had success logging into closed accounts online?

BTW, I just tried this again and it definately recognizes my username and password, but it continues to kick me back to the crappy offer page after I log in. If I try to log in incorrectly, it gives me the "No username and password could be found...blah, blah." When I use the correct username and password, it just kicks me back to the initial pick your DVDs screen with the by 5 for .49 offer.

Here's what I get (using a closed account from a couple of months ago):

If I log in at the $5 web incentive page as a new member (using account number and zip code) I see:

"You have already registered as XXXXXXXXXXX. Please sign in with your username and password in the returning members area to the left."

If I go to the left and use my old name and password, I see:

"Sorry, that user is not registered for the DVD Club. Please try again with your DVD Club username and password or click here to join."

As I said earlier, this used to work for me as recently as 6 months ago.

I agree. This is a simple way to recover old account numbers.

I recommend a spread sheet or something to store this info. I was able to recover old fun cash, use it as a list of available PSNs, among other things.
I do this also, as do many others here.

To the best of my knowledge there are no really good no-PSN codes other than the ones mentioned above. However, some so-so no-PSN codes include:

c4s (4+2) $8.31 average DVD cost
00v and MANY others (6 + 2) $8.65 average DVD cost (this is the same as the old 7cy code)

The BEST thing to do is to use one of the best codes listed in the Better Code Thread, call the new accounts phone number—888-242-3837—and when asked for the "number on your mailing" just say that you "don't have it with you". Usually this will be good enough and the account will go through. When calling in an order like this you will need your credit card and it helps to have the catalog numbers of the DVDs you want. (You may be asked all sorts of questions, like your birthday, phone number, whether your credit card is in your name, whether your credit card address is the same as your mailing address, and that sort of thing.) Once you have your first account you can use that account number as your PSN for the next account and can open it on-line.

I ended up signing up as a completely new user and just closed my account.

Total damage:

Intial deal: 7 DVD for $27.35
Using the 3/$25 deal, I fulfilled my committment and got 12 DVDs for $100
I used my $12 in FunCash to buy a new release, Man on Fire, for $13.xx shipped.

Total damage: 20 DVDs for $140.

Now I have a PSN.

I was wondering about that since I knew you lived in Canada. Good luck!

Closed over the phone as opposed to over the web?
