Wow, never thought I'd see that THIN MAN set so low. That's less what I paid for it USED with a crumply box last summer. And I thought I was getting a such a bargain.

The GARBO set has been notoriously expensive and never seemed to come down, so this is quite the deal. I wound up getting all the titles individually over the years, but for a lot more.

Tempted on the POWELL/LOY set even though it's not as packed with extras as the WB Signature Collections or bigger box sets.

Wow, those are good prices, thanks for the heads up!
There are some other Signature Collections on sale too, best way I could find to list them(When I tried priced from low to high, junk that didn't have those words even in the title showed up)

The first disc (which was released as a snapper in 2002) has a full trailer gallery, but each disc thereafter contains its own trailer, a short subject and a cartoon. Robert Benchley is in How to Be a Detective and Why Daddy? among musical shorts and an instalment of Passing Parade. There are also a couple of radio shows with Powell and Loy. Cartoons include strange efforts like The Early Bird and the Worm and The Bookworm with Tex Avery making a nice showing in Screwball Squirrel and Slap Happy Lion. Fans of film noir will be pleased to see the Jules Dassin short subject The Tell-Tale Heart: Dassin was going nowhere as a trainee at the studio when they allowed him to shoot it. It was shelved for a year but so acclaimed when released that the brass had to take notice and give the young director feature work. The artsy adaptation features expressive camera angles and Joseph Schildkraut as the paranoid murderer, ta-thump, ta thump.

A seventh disc contains the 'documentary profiles' William Powell: A True Gentleman and Myrna Loy: So Nice to Come Home To. Both actors have fascinating backstories and seem the kind of Hollywood royalty who deserved their fame and glory. They're a pleasure to learn about. Sparkhill did the new Powell piece and the Loy show is by Richard Schickel from 1990.

Also on the bonus disc is a TV episode of The Thin Man from the late fifties, starring Peter Lawford and Phillis Kirk, and another radio show with Powell and Loy. Lawford and Kirk don't begin to touch the personality of the films.

I woudn't be surprised if the wbshop comes in with even better prices tomorrow. that's what happened in years past.

True enough, but waiting could backfire if they don't. Who knows how long these discounts will last on Amazon?

That MAE WEST proved elusive at the Big Lots in SoCal. Near as I could tell the only copies made it to one store in Culver City. Sadly my friend saw it there and said he didn't pick it up for me because he thought I already had it! He also spotted the W.C. FIELDS Volume 2 set at the same BL, but passed on it for the same reason. Needless to say I have since developed a better system for his having my BL Want List. ;)

I think only Volume 2 was at Big Lots last year, I never saw Volume One.

Unfortunately with Big Lots, it's hit and miss. I was only able to find Marlene Dietrich at BL of all the ones mentioned here. I have access to 3 stores.

Looks like this isn't going to happen. Too bad because I have a $10 credit at the WB SHOP. Oh well, back to Amazon.
