^ & ^^ - you may want to check those copies of To the Shores of Tripoli as an initial pressing was in B/W rather than color and made it to retailers (there was also an exchange program if you got a B/W copy). Supposedly those got "pulled" but it's Fox so anything could have happened.

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Hamilton Square, NJ got an update. The new $5 films were mostly sports-themed, which was odd when paired with the screaming fluorescent pink tags.

$3
The Darjeeling Limited
Cold Mountain
The Proud Ones
Ronin (2-disc)
12 Angry Men
Kate & Leopold
The Savages
Carrie (1970's decade collection)
To the Shores of Tripoli
Species
Shutter
Life Or Something Like It
Shock Treatment
Scary Movie
The Devil's Rejects (2-disc)
The Amityville Horror (orig)
Children of the Corn (remake)
Saw: The Final Chapter
Wrestlemaniac (aka El Mascarado Massacre)

$5
Raging Bull
The Pride of the Yankees
Eight Men Out
Facing Ali
Rookie of the Year
The Cutting Edge
Rocky (2-disc edition that's been here before)
Rocky II (2005/2006? transfer)
Rocky III (ditto)
Bend It Like Beckham
Like Mike
The Open Road

Child's Play and Hannibal were fullscreen. Picked up the only copies I saw of Wuthering Heights (Timothy Dalton), Slums of Beverly Hills, and The Dancer Upstairs.

I'm so broke that I'm unsure if it's worth the 30 miles or so to Puyallup for the current batch........

^^
Was just at the Puyallup store a couple of hours ago. If you were looking for something specific, I may be able to tell you if I saw something you want. Only the 2 Jack Lemmon Titles (Pfffffffft & Operation Mad Ball), and a couple of odds & ends caught my eye.

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I just picked up:

$2.40
Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2 disc special edition)
Midnight Cowboy (2 disc collector's edition)
Reno 911!: Miami
The Pink Panther 2
12 Angry Men (50th Anniversary Edition)

$4
Father of the Pride: the Complete series

Father of the Pride was marked $6, and rang up $4 (which I was aware of), but it didn't take 20% off, which I didn't notice until I got home. I really don't want to go back tomorrow to try to straighten it out. If I go back later next week, is it going to be a hassle to get it adjusted since the sale is over? Or should it be pretty easy to get the adjustment?

I took a chance on one but have not opened it. The UPC is a "pasted over" label type on the original case (under the shrink wrap but over the security strip) with #024543809769. The "Fox War Classics" banner on the front is a muted green. Amazon shows 2 listings, neither of which match the UPC of the one I have but one has an image with muted green on the banner while the other is a bright green.

The Amazon "reviews" seem to point to the one with the bright green banner being in color while the muted one is in B/W, but I don't necessarily trust that as many people just don't understand or realize what product they purchased and will often put their "review" on the wrong one.

But wait... there's another review on a B/W copy which says:
the aspect ratio is correctly noted as 1.33:1, Full Frame Format. However, the last line on the bottom of the box's back panel notes: "WIDESCREEN VERSION: Presented in a letterbox format preserving the aspect ratio of its original theatrical exhibition."
The copy I have does not have that line about being in WS and the top line of the fine print indicates: Copyright 2002 which another review indicates is present on their color version. Of course, there's a small line under the synopsis line which says "1942, B&W, 86 Minutes" while below the produced/directed credits it proclaims "Photographed in Technicolor". Add to the confusion the 2 sepia tone stills from the film beside the synopsis and the color menu shown in the Features box.

So... gotta decide if it's worth ~$2.50 (20% off + tax) to chance it... Since it says both B&W and Technicolor on the back I doubt I could convince the store to take it back once it's been opened.

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

^^^

I'm sure I have the same one. I used DVD Profiler and here is what I came up with.

There are 4 UPCs for this product on DVD Profiler. None of them show "1942, B&W, 86 Minutes". They all show "1942, Color, 86 Minutes"
1) UPC 024543039556 and 024543039563 have the widescreen indicator at the bottom
2) UPC 024543053088 and 024543053071 do not.

There is another UPC (024543053095) that I can't find any info about. I got it from eBay.

My guess: This is definitely B&W. Fox probably just fixed the back cover to reflect B&W instead of Color. I know it says "Photographed in Technicolor" which it was. It;'s probably just not reflected on the DVD.

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Well, here's my DVD haul after 20% off ($2.40/ea):

Best of Chappelle's Show
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (78)
The Quick and the Dead (Sam Elliot/Kate Capshaw; 87)
Pocketful of Miracles
The Proud Ones (Robert Ryan; 56)
The Amityville Horror (orig)
Virtuality

Also, I bought a (wireless built in) blu-ray player for $45! Wasn't expecting that...

And I took a chance. Here's more info:

The security seal on my copy has the 024543039563 UPC as is the UPC on the original lable under the pasted on UPC label, but no mention of WS anywhere on the cover. And... it's a B/W copy of the film.

Looks like these are possibly the original defective copies being dumped rather than destroyed.

Virtually nothing new at the Culver City, CA store. Four big displays, but all the same fly buzzing crap they have had since the 1800's. The Southern California drought continues....

Model # magnavox mbp5130/f7

According to the internets, some people have problems getting the wireless to connect. This looks like a refurb, so hopefully that issue is fixed (fingers crossed).

Don't feel bad Glenn, as the Niles store had absolute crap there when I went there yesterday. Lots of Rocky SE ones, crappy movies galore and Kiss Me, Stupid with Dean Martin which wasn't one of his better ones. Not one TV show series available and the place was like a madhouse. Now I know why I haven't been in this craphole for quite some time. What's with the new tower like display for these DVD releases now?

Yes, it's a refurb. The only BR players BL has had so far have been refurbs. Not that it's necessarily bad as they carry a full manufacturer's warranty but some people have issue with such merchandise.

Richard, I wish I could find KISS ME, STUPID! Did they have more than one copy? Maybe my brother can pick it up.

Glenn, they only have the one copy left as I placed it on the back side of the display upper left side first few rows right on the front. It's a pink box and only saw one of them when I was there on Sunday. Let your brother know that is where I put it, so he can pick it up for you.

Glenn, if he can't make it there, I'll go there tomorrow afternoon and pick it up for you, if it is still there as I'm not too far away from that dump. I'll keep you posted and please do the same, in case your brother gets it for you.
