Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Earlier Tonight I Decided To Stop By My Local Big Lots, Just To See What New Titles They Had. Well BL Put Out Some $3 Dollar Titles That They Already Had In The Past! That Kept Me Wondering, Does BL Take Certain Items To The Back And Wait A Couple Of Months And Then Puts Them Back Out?

Well Anyway, Walked Out With 4 $3.00 Dollar Titles:
Being Julia (2004),
House Of Sand And Fog (2003),
The Morning After (1986),
& Mrs. Henderson Presents (2005)

I'm Still Waiting For Witness For The Prosecution, Intermezzo, And Bananas. And Technically Anything Directed, Written, And Starring Woody Allen!

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Stopped in a local Big Lots (Swansea, Mass.) for the first time in a few weeks. Gotta say, I wasn't expecting anything at all going by the lack of posts on here. Well I was pleasantly surprised to find a handful of stuff I'd never seen before....

'68...with Neil Young
The Adventures of Errol Flynn...documentary
Confessions of an American Bride...Lifetime Original Movie
The Formula...Marlon Brando

They were all 3 bucks. The Formula was in a slim case. There was another title which I can't remember now, but it was about a teen girl band. Looked kinda recent....Oh, and there was also a couple of copies of a music video dvd mixed in with the movies of the group Enigma, which was also 3 bucks.

The Formula is part of the Marlon Brando Collection which you can get for around 15 bucks shipped from Amazon.

Any time I see those "slim cases" I automatically assume it came from a larger set and always look it up before making the purchase. Like that Brando set, I frequently get a pleasant surprise with price/value ratio as well as a few more films.

Sorry, no, it wasn't "Bandslam" or any of the other previous guesses. I keep trying different searches in IMDB and even Amazon to see other suggestions that those sites make, you know, like "Similar Titles" or "People who bought that, also bought this", then it lists a couple dozen or so titles, but I'm still not finding it. Hopefully I'll go back by that particular store sometime soon so I can run in and get this furshlugginer title once and for all. It's driving me insane that I can't remember it.

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Ok, I finally went by there and copied that title down. No wonder I wasn't finding it, it's considered a video magazine of some real life girl band...

No Secrets: Get To Know Us

While I was there looking for it, I came across another handfull of titles. All $5 though...

The Cocoanuts...Marx Bros.
The Double
The Fountainhead
The Heiress
Repo Men

Then I went by the Seekonk, Mass. store and found one single title I hadn't previously seen...

The Magic Bubble...$3

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I went to my BL for the 1st time since the last 20% off sale, and besides the tiny 2-sided $3/$5 DVD display, they had a different taller blue cardboard 4-sided display about 1/4th filled with DVDs. The 4-sided DVD tower that has been there forever was still there, but 2 sides of it was taken over by accessories. So, while there appears to be a bit less, at least they still have some DVDs. No BDs though. I still didn't find any DVDs I wanted to buy. In fact, I can't remember the last time I bought a DVD at BL.

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I visited the local BL this weekend and was surprised at the additions, although there was just one copy of some titles:

The Fountainhead
The World in His Arms
Captain Newman, M.D.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (w/ slipcover)
The Karate Kid Part III (slim case)
This Island Earth
Gods and Generals (2-disk)
Alice In Wonderland (CGI effort from 2007, on Image label)
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (20th Anniversary)
Imitation of Life (Universal Legacy 2-disk)

There appeared to be restocks of some other titles, too.

But I had my first encounter with another unfortunate movie studio practice (hopefully just a mistake): placing "Movie Money", TCM, etc. stickers directly on the case instead of on the shrink wrap!

Stopped by the BL on PCH closest to the 110 Fwy. The only new titles I saw were Born Romantic & Hot Dog! The Movie (which I remember fondly from the days it was on regular rotation on SelecTV).

Picked up Spetters and a horror movie about a psych ward (my wife is a sucker about those) for $2.88 a piece over the weekend. However, after reading reviews or rather details on Spetters (I'm a decent Paul Verhoeven fan), I think I might just leave it unopened and turn it over on Half.com. Oh well. Lots of titles I had not seen before though.

I rented this movie back in the early 90s and was quite surprised by the graphic homosexual gang rape But if that is your thing this is the movie for you.
