I'm not Laser and don't have his specifics but I can speak in generalities. Some of the Criterion Blu-rays have been around $28 during the current B&N B2G1 sale. When you combine the sale with a coupon and cash back you get close to $15.

Well, once I added tax, I just got Zazie, Black Moon & People On Sunday for $55. Not quite as good as I'd like, but what are you gonna do?

I haven't decided due to a number of reasons, but if I were to buy all of the below titles, I'll have every Blu through the end of July:

The 400 Blows
Beauty & The Beast
By Brakhage
A Christmas Tale
Close Up
The Complete Monterey Pop Festival
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
High & Low
Howard's End
The Last Emperor
Life During Wartime
Leon Morin, Priest
The Makioka Sisters
The Music Room
Naked

10% member discount makes all the blus $18 and there is usually at least another 10 or 15 % coupon out there, and have even had 25% off coupons during the sale. While the new $8 coupons off sets priced above $40msrp - which includes titles like Night of the Hunter and The Leopard that will be around $15 now. $45 msrp eclipse sets will be $12 and $60 sets $19, and the big ones ($80msrp) down to $28!

can't do that on-line.

By Brakhage - 40-10%-8=28
Monterey Pop - 30-10%-8=19

if you get By Brakhage, Makioka Sisters and another $40 title (say 400 Blows) that works out to 28+13.5+18-5off50 = 54.5 for a savings of 60% pre tax

Monterey Pop, plus two 39.95 titles would work out to 50ish and the same 60% savings.

There, I just spent 100$ for you and got you six titles on your way.

It's not $13 a pop, but it's still a solid deal. Made even better if we get some % off coupons this time around.

I agree as to more expensive sets, but online is still the way to go for the 7 titles that are currently $28, at least if you have a Discover card. I got 6 of them for an effective price of ~$14.67 each plus tax, which I'm going to have a hard time doing in store. I'd need there to be at least a 20% coupon available, and I'd need to do multiple trips, which is a hassle. All I'm saying is that people interested in these 7 titles should consider getting them online now.

planning to take advantage of this sale for the first time... is it worth it to get 2 month B & N membership just to do this sale? (I can't go to any of the actual stores and I see that some of the coupons are specific for the stores, not for online).

There's not much need for a membership if you plan to buy everything online as all the membership gets you at BN.com is faster shipping.

Re: Criterion 50% off sale at B&N starting July 12, get out your credit cards

if you want to buy a few of the sets, or are interested in Eclipse at all, then yes, the membership is absolutely worth it because of the $8 off coupons...you can still make your $25 back and then some with other coupons and the $5 off $50 - depending on how many you want.

basically, if you are buying 2 or 3 titles, don't bother....if you are going to buy 10 or more now and in November, by all means it is a fabulous bonus. I've saved upwards of $300 or more on top of the regular sale for $50 in membership fees in the last 3 sales...But that includes about 60 singles, a few boxsets, and probably 8 eclipse sets.

Yes, I have issues

OK, thanks. I just knew that last summer, there were a couple that didn't come out on blu (Two Films by Yasujiro Ozu, 3 Silent Classics by Josef von Sternberg).

Glad to see that they've finally reached equality with putting stuff out on both formats.

fyi, from what i've seen, all (or most) Criterions have been pulled from the B2G1F online B&N sale.

That is correct. They are no doubt gearing up to launch the Criterion sale online before too long.

Nabbed Kiss Me Deadly, Black Moon, and Diabolique before the B2G1 ended. $55 shipped works just fine.

Now I'll just need to grab Naked and Beauty and the Beast (along with one or two others, I'm sure) and I'll be all caught up. Been sitting on gift cards since the holidays for this thing.

Can't say I'm surprised. Good thing I went ahead and placed an order last night (for Something Wild, Solaris, and The Great Dictator). Ended up being cheaper than 50% off sale...

It appears there's a few titles that have gone down to 50% already...

I noted in the Blu-ray thread that I just placed an order and was able to use a coupon. Not sure if that will hold up throughout the sale, but I just thought I would point it out.

Re: Criterion 50% off sale at B&N starting July 12, get out your credit cards

Anyone think I'll be able to get them to use the $8 off $40 for By Brakhage in store? If not, it might be worth my pulling the trigger on it online with the 15% off. It's a difference in paying around $31 vs. $37 after taxes. I may place the order and if it works in store, return to sender with the Brakhage.

blargh. Elevator to the Gallows and Story of Floating Weeds aren't part of the sale (yet?) for some reason.

Re: Criterion 50% off sale at B&N starting July 12, get out your credit cards

the 8 dollar coupon doesn't work online with the eclipse titles, or the 50 blu titles or even the 79.99 box sets (which are most of them, but they're 39.99 for the sale and that makes all the difference) It will work on the 100$ box sets (Robeson, Rohmer, Varda, Truffaut) and the 125$ box sets (Berlin, BBS, Cassavetes), on the latter three it acts as a $13 coupon. if you use it with one of the former four it will take off 13 if you have something else in your shopping bag that pushes the total over $50.

it would probably also work with the four bergman, rebel samurai, and great adaptations sets.

those have been temporarily OOP while Criterion changes them over to the slimmer figure 8 2 disc cases. That's probably why. But Amazon has them back in stock finally, so it may change soon.

Elevator to the Gallows has to be in line for an upgrade to blu though...maybe not soon, but it'll happen.

Went to one of the local stores to get Broadcast News and was surprised to see it was "select titles" I don't remember that from before and from seeing lists on this thread before I left work, I assumed it was like previous sales...?

Re: Criterion 50% off sale at B&N starting July 12, get out your credit cards

Used the $8 coupon on the Raffaello Matarazzo Eclipse set and the cashier didn't blink...$19 for it and $54 out the door for it + Thin Red Line and Insignificance on blu w/ the $5 off $50 also.

Two other guys were pouring over the Criterions - one had 5 or 6 titles, the other had about 20
