The Noir 5 set just dipped below $20 today. It's $19.99.

Damn! I paid $20.43 for it just a few days ago! I knew this would happen! Now I have to tell my gf when she gets home so she can say:

"And what would you have done with that 44 cents?"

I mention it only because the sub-$20 mark is a "buy" trigger for me when it comes to boxed sets. I've got another 15 sets on my wish list that are [im]patiently waiting for a similar price freefall.

Oh I wasn't trying to belittle your post, guerilla, just having some fun at my own expense because often I am THAT GUY complaining about the new lower price and not taking into account just how much of a savings it is or isn't.

You and I collect along the same lines and there are sets I'm still waiting to hit the $19.99 mark as well, especially the first two BETTE DAVIS sets and THE THIN MAN series.

Keep an eye peeled on WBshop.com. They had an amazing sale last Christmas on Warner sets priced around 12-14 dollars. I picked up the Bette Davis III set and the Esther Williams II set for $11.99 each.

Thanks Gobear, you are so right! I also got the BETTE III set during that sale, the EROLL FLYNN ADVENTURES and the HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS OF HORROR set. Hope they will have the same sale again this year.

Amazon UK has got the UK equivalent of the US 6 disc "The Bette Davis Collection, Vol. 3" which sells for $35 & up on Amazon US for £10.93 Including Vat; remove the VAT & add shipping & it comes to aprox $19.66 USD delivered.

It's called the "100th Birthday Box Set" & has similar cover art.

Could be pirated/bootlegs..Amazon market place is flooded with them. I got Planet Earth about a year ago and turned out to be a bootleg

A lot of these deals are fulfilled through amazon now. I can't imagine anyone using amazon to fulfill non genuine product. Warner has been known to dump their DVD's at Big lots and others. There are some other products known to be a target for bootlegs.

Not only that, but what's the risk? Since they're fulfilled by Amazon all of Amazon's policies apply; if something fulfilled by Amazon turns out to be a bootleg you get your money back from Amazon.

I mentioned this in another thread: many of these Warner boxes are Canadian (nothing wrong with that); Warner Canada has been doing a box set dump the past few months.

Please let me know if you see any deals for THE THIN MAN box or the ROBERT MITCHUM box, both of which are still high at Amazon.

With regards to the first BETTE DAVIS box, the copy of JEZEBEL is the old copy, isn't it? It's since come out in an improved edition. Any other older copies in the first two BETTE boxes?

I haven't seen either box on any of the lists I've seen. I also don't own any of the BD boxes, though as soon as the exchange rate gets a little more in the USA's favor, I plan to spring for that UK box.

The comparison for anyone should be to the amazon marketplace not to amazon. Lucille Ball collection is only 12.99 plus shipping on amazon. Looney tunes Golden vol .5 is only 19.70 and fulfilled by amazon and 16.50 for Looney Tunes vol.3 fulfilled by amazon as well. These are a few examples.

GRRRR. amazon.uk was NOT showing the 10.93 as a sale price. They've now jumped it to 18.34.

There is still 1 3rd party seller at the same price (though I don't know if they remove vat on 3rd party??), but their feedback isn't real good.

Thanks for the heads up on Looney Tunes Vol. 3 for $16.50. I've been looking for the sets at a decent price for a while.

I ordered the Forbidden Hollywood Vol. 1 set (Waterloo Bridge / Baby Face / Red-Headed Woman) last night for $12.70. These titles are OOP so it's now or never for those interested. Currently the best price at Amazon is $12.99 fulfilled through Amazon with Free Super Saver Shipping ($25 order).

Per Amazon on Vol. 3 "Only 17 left in stock--order soon (more on the way)."

I hope & assume that means V.3 is not oop. Ut's too pricy for me at the moment (already have 1 & 2).

Even with V 1 & 2, Amazon is doing so much of that 3rd party fullfilled by Amazon stuff, that I'm not certain it definitely means oop. It may just be that Amazon is trying to lower the cost of carrying inventory.

Amazon has the forbidden set 1 for 31.99. If a seller has it for less they often give up the buy box.

3 of the 4 Warner Gangsters boxed sets are in the $15-$18 range right now. I picked them up at the WB shop last year for $16.99 each during the Black Friday sale.

Those Gangsters sets are amazing steals at that price. I already had 1 and 3, but picked up 2 and 4 today. The 4th one is an especially good deal. Standalone copies of LARCENY INC and KID GALAHAD are alone 20 bucks each via Amazon third parties... yet you can get the whole box set for 18.

Some of the titles from the 4th set have turned up at Oldies lately and they list them as "rare and out of print."
