@CCS:
Don't bother.
I picked up mine at Wal Mart this afternoon and just snapped a few pictures. And yes, it was very well shipped. (They sent it from warehouse to store via normal UPS Ground. For UPS, business-to-business shipping is always cheaper than business-to-residential, and I'm sure Wal Mart gets some killer rates.) Unfortunately, this didn't prevent a spot of red paint from appearing on the laser side of "All Monsters Attack", so I've just sent an email to their customer service to see what can be done. Technically, one of the plastic trays from the Gojira set is also slightly cracked.

I always try to leave the outer shrink wrap on the box for protection, as was the case here. The box is...a box. But yes, the cardboard grade is exceedingly thin for the mass it's meant to hold. I have boxed sets nearly half this size that use cardboard more akin to the covers of a good hardback book (i.e. 3-4 times thicker). But it's still thick enough to do the job without falling apart. The box won't be expected to protect the individual digipacks inside, and instead just look pretty on my shelf. Not fancy, but it works.
Kudos to the OP and to the individual who suggested Wal Mart!

I picked up my set at WM yesterday. It also shipped in a box with a lot of padding. The clerk took 20 minutes to show up at the pick-up desk after being paged. He opened the box, pulled out the set, held it up to my face and said "Godzilla? Really?" and then looked at me like I needed to explain myself to him. I simply signed for the set and left.
This really is an attractive collection, even with the downgraded packaging. Unfortunately, my slipcase is ripped all along on the top of the spine, but it appears to had been done by whoever assembled it at the factory. It's also bent all along the back, which could only have happened at the factory -- unless my set was resealed after someone sat on the empty box. The content was all undamaged, thankfully. My only minor quibble is they included a Canadian copy of "Mothra vs. Godzilla" that was covered with Alliance Atlantis and rating stickers directly on the foil. This one also lists the distributor as "Sony BMG" and not "Genius Entertainment" like the other 6 films. Anyone else's copy like this?

FWIW, the set I got from amazon has the "Canadian" versions of "Ghidorah", and "Invasion of Astro Monster". The *only* difference is a "Canadian Home Video" rating sticker and a security strip both of which are *under* the shrink wrap, but applied to the case. Both came off with little effort, leaving some glue residue behind. The residue came off with a bit of judicious "rubbing" with a clean, lint-free cloth. The box and disk text are full English and not English & French as you would have with a true Canadian release.
Short version: These are "Canadian" by application of a sticker only. Otherwise they are the US releases.
And I also do not have any issue with the outer box. It's just fine for my purposes. I'm glad to have the films at such an affordable price. This is even with me already owning 3 of the titles prior to purchasing the box set. I was set to order the 4 I was missing at ~$6-$7 each before the price drop so I saved money no matter what. Plus I have 3 *new* copies of the duplicates to either gift or sell. It was a full win/win for me!

No hating on the box here. Now those goddamn Canadian stickers on the other hand - only got one of those, luckily. A little scraping, a quick citizenship test, and all was well. Nice set, no complaints.

Ordered this through Borders.com for $16.42 total including tax with the 50% off and free shipping codes that are floating around.
Wasn't sure I would get it because of the two week backorder but it actually shipped.

^ Yeah, that's a better deal. I thought I was lucky getting the last copy on Wal-Mart.com. Good find!
I was briefly considering re-ordering it from Borders and returning the sealed copy for a refund next time I went to Wal-Mart. But considering it was listed as backordered and might not ship at all, I figured it wasn't worth the effort to save $4.

This set has gone back down to $20.49 at Amazon, for the moment . . .
EDIT: Just to counterpoint the inevitable reminders that Borders previously had this set for $16.42, it should probably be noted that their price is now $30.99, making Amazon the better deal for those who missed out.

I've had these for a while, but I never come into the DVD bargain forum anymore and I can't believe this set is going for so cheap! I think I pre-ordered all of these individually through CM for close to what this set is going for now. Amazing steal.

This set just dropped to $17.99, which I believe is the lowest it's been.

For those who had to have a thicker box. The seller on ebay who had them for $77 has now dropped it by $10.
