It must have been the week of or right after the first release went OOP and I ordered a copy from Amazon for $35. Amz still showed it listed in stock 9-12 days out - which usually means forget about it. It took about a month and a half and I received a shipping notification. What I received was the second release (flimsy outer cover).

The aftermarket shot up to around $110 around that two month in-transit time and I was considering it at that price. But long gone are the days where I'm concerned about packaging so I just kept what I got. No, I didn't get it for $19 sale price but it's still very much worth it. Classic Media did a heckuva job with the films as it is.

Yeah $35 is still totally worth it flimsy outer cover and all. I cant believe people actually would pay $110 just for the set with a cardboard box. Thats crazy. The resale value of that set will go down over the years not up. There will be more releases of all these films on other formats in the future im sure and people will just buy them. This set as is still has the great inner boxes and content. I would have paid $35 just for those without the flimsy paper cover.LOL

For those who haven't ordered yet and have never had amazon Prime.
You can actually get a one month free trial of Prime. There is a setting/
option they give you in your account that lets Amazon know that you only
want the one month free trial and not to charge your card for a subscription
once the 30 days are up.

I had ordered my set last Friday night and it came on Monday morning.
$18.99 and free 2 day shipping was a deal that I couldn't pass up on.

 Actually I usually go a few months. Not this month though. I saw the unboxing of this set on youtube after reading this thread. Its a great set. Nicest presentation of any Godzilla release thus far.

I got my box set. Walmart, like Amazon, is sending out the flimsy, cardboard slipcase. Oh well. Love it anyway.

Mothra vs. Godzilla doesn't have the holo sticker like the rest of the films...I know it did initially...

The copy of "Mothra vs. Godzilla" in the set I received has the sticker. It's not very well positioned but it's there.

I think at this point you wont find the old box to much. People are either holding on to them thinking others will be foolish enough to give them big bucks for a cardboard box or there is old stock floating around on some online stores and its a crap shoot if someone gets one.

Meh. A tiny sticker on a dvd case isnt a big deal. Its the films that matter. Now if they put all the movies on Double sides discs and cut the disc count in half I would have an issue. Otherwise this is the exact same set regardless of packaging quality/asthetics.

Thanks for the heads up, although I really should yell at you. I just get through on an amazing action movie buying binge and declared myself done shopping for the month, when you go and bring this to my attention.

Needless to say... it will be here by Saturday.

Getting mine in a few days. It will be fun to see these again. They are rarely if ever shown on tv or cable any longer.

A bunch of them were on Crackle.com and through the App (if you have a Sony Blu player).

Re: Amazon: GODZILLA COLLECTION $18.99

Just got mine today. Excellent set. Yes the outer box is different now but the interior boxes are excellent. You cannot go wrong with this set for $19. Thats $2.72 a movie. More than worth the price.

For the ones who MUST have the thicker OOP box. There is an ebay seller seller who has it for $77.77 I cant post links yet so just look up the collection and you will see it there. For some reason I dont think an additional $58.78 for a cardboard box is worth it. I doubt you will find it much cheaper. The one that comes with the set is just fine. Thinner and cheaper but its looks identical on the self.:D

Does the OOP "thick box" have the same UPC number as the current "thin box"?

I almost thought it didnt. But it does. The lister that has the $77 two piece box on ebay has the same upc my box does. I highly doubt any of those sellers are selling the 2 piece box. I doubt you will find it much cheaper than the $77 on ebay right now. Again its just not worth the extra cash for a box. The interior boxes are excellent. While the new exterior box is indeed thinner its still nice. One thing it does have over the other box is that there is no seam that makes the porthole window look uneven at times. Something the two piece box does.
The new set is more than worth it for a measly $18.99.:D Dont wait too long to decide I doubt its gonna stay at that price all the time.

My set came today...and it's pretty damned badass, 'flimsy box' be damned. I'm glad I decided to upgrade my old set.

It is great isnt it? Nicest godzilla set I have seen so far. CANNOT go wrong with it. Godzilla fans shouldnt even have to mull it over. Its a no brainer.

This isn't quite the same bargain as the GODZILLA box, but I noticed the RODAN/WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS 2-disc double feature (which includes a rather good documentary, I'm told) is down to $10.99 at Amazon. Packaging is the same as the individual releases in the GODZILLA set, I believe.

My set arrived today, and I have to say that it's a beautiful set. Already I am in love with it, even if I do question one of the choices on the set.
