I always go nuts during these sales, but at a buck apiece, it's hard not to.

Whenever one of these deals pops up, there's always that one title that never shows up locally. For me, it was Boynton Beach Club last time (which CVS is selling for $12) and Julia this time. 2 of the 4 stores in my area haven't put out the movies yet, so I still have a shot at finding Julia. Not sure it's worth the hassle though.

I honestly didn't know anything about the DVD but when I see some movie that is different from the rest, I almost always pick it up...

Back home; bought...

Blackthorn
The Life Before Her Eyes
The Great Buck Howard
Moonlight Serenade
Android Apocalypse

I phoned - they had just put the DVDs out less than two hours ago.

It was a full bin.

But most of them were multi-copies.

Question. Did "Moonnight Serenade" come with a slipcover?

Did not see "Special".

I hope you people left me something. This is why DVDs don't last long at $1. There would be fist fights if BDs started showing up at this price.

There's been about 3 or 4 shipments over the past 3 years or so that included mostly blu-rays.

I think I bought 1 every title I didn't own. WTF is wrong with me ;). No titles that haven't been listed. Also, I didn't find 20 Million Miles to Earth either. That DVD has one cool slip cover if you can find it.

BTW I didn't know you ever posted at DVD Talk -- or even that you'd been a member since 2003  . Nice to see you over here too.

Ain't that the truth. I didn't get Astro Boy complete series last time and a time before that I didn't get Upside Down blu. There's always something that evades my grasp.

Went out of town and found the display. 18 bucks later...

It's hard to resist at this price, but I did leave 6-7 titles behind after checking reviews and/or not being interested in the particular plot or genre.

There was a nice stack of Blus a year or two ago - including 3D Blus. -eek- No "big name" movies necessarily, and some of them were seemingly only available in certain parts of the country, but it was still an awesome time. I am hoping we get that again.

Wow, I can't believe it's been that long. But yeah, I've been around. I did go through a period where I didn't post anything for a while - no reason in particular, just one of those things. This thread is actually what brought me back. When our other board was a week late in discovering and posting about the last deal, someone there mentioned this thread, so I checked it out and now here I am! :D It's great to see you here too! :)

I never did find the version with the complete set in one case, but I was able to get 1-5 separately. I would've loved to have paid $1 (complete set) instead of $5 (individual volumes), both for cost and space-saving measures. But I already had Volume 1 from the deal before that, so I didn't mind picking up 2-5 individually.

Same here. There were some with good actors and such, but the synopsis didn't catch my interest and I knew I'd never actually sit down to watch them. At $1, I am much more open-minded about what I buy, but I had to self-impose some limits.

I saw most of these last week. There were a few I might have wanted to see...but no English subtitles on most of them was the dealbreaker (Magnolia is notorious for supplying Spanish only). Ultimately I ended up only getting Angels Crest.

All the ones I've watched so far do have English closed-captions, if you have that capability.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

The one location I can depend on to have DVDs had a couple of plastic bins out by the front today. They must have been out a day or two, I wasn't the first one to pick through them as over half had been sold. I ended up with 13 DVDs, from Flawless to The Good Doctor. This location had a lot of duplicates for certain movies (20+ copies of The Great Buck Howard) and only one or two copies of others.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

I went to an "out of the way" location today hoping to find Julia. It was pretty picked over, but I scored the last copy. :D They also had Eclipse, but only one copy and it was a floater, so I didn't bother.

Then I went back to my original "good" one and they already put out new stuff - I know Romulus wasn't there yesterday (I got it at a different store) and I was happy to spot Flawless (also not there yesterday), which I almost bought from Big Lots for $3 a few months ago. I have no idea if it's a good movie, but it looks interesting to me. There was also a box on top of the display with more movies, but nothing new or interesting - same old stuff.

Between the two stores, I ended up getting:

- Flawless
- Good Doctor, The
- Is Anybody There?
- Job, The
- Julia
- Life Before Her Eyes, The (doesn't even look appealing to me, but something told me to get it)
- Lost City, The

I think this will be it for me. I can live without Eclipse.

I remember getting Upside Down [3D], Titanic [2012 mini-series], and Cosmopolis [the 2-disc Best Buy version].
Wish Blu's would show up again. ;)

Cosmopolis never showed up in my area, but those other two did.

The last wave of Blus I got were The Watsons Go to Birmingham, that Big Momma sequel, and something else. Pretty underwhelming. Watsons is supposed to be good though.

I keep hoping for a wave of Mill Creek double feature blu-rays. The first blu-rays that appeared at Dollar Tree were Mill Creek, but that was like 3 years ago. I've put off buying a few of those double features since I expect them to show up at Dollar Tree at some point. Of course, if I had a Fry's near me, I would have been able to get a few for cheap.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Back yet again.

Knowing what I now know, I picked up fourteen titles; for their cases (selecting the good ones).

Will need them, Black Thursday is coming. And I know, I will have to replace many, I hate those eco-cases.

I did buy something of a mystery...

"The Lost City" (2006) a blind buy. All copies - minus one, were single disc releases. I found and bought a two disc version. The extra DVD reads, "Making Of "The Lost City" - Extended Version" among other bonuses.

What is this? Was this a store exclusive?

It was a Best Buy exclusive iirc.

I was about to bitch that I probably bought the single disc version, not knowing about this. But as it turns out, I didn't buy any version of this movie. :p Not sure why. It's possible I didn't see it in any of the stores I went to.

Edit: Wait, I did buy it. I'll update my previous post. I assume I have the single disc version though. It lists a "Making of" on the back but nothing about an "Extended Version."

Did some lookin' at the archive here.

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-bargain...12-2006-a.html

This was an exclusive bonus disc from Target; which sold on street for $15.99.

Sway.

Thank you for your reply Trevor.

Needs to be a two disc set.

A while back, I put in an online order with a bunch of the Mill Creek double features at $1 each. I had to pad it with 1 or 2 3.99 titles, but it saved me a trip to Fry's. I haven't tried it since, but you might look into that next time the sale starts. They may have exhausted the supply and it may not be worth it now, but you might want to keep it in mind anyway.

The Life Before Her Eyes is the best movie of that lot. I've had it on Blu-ray for years.

Interesting. I just opened my copy to find that it is the two disc version. Nothing on the case indicates that it's the two disc version, it just happened to be the one I grabbed.

I would certainly do that but usually by the time I look, at least half of the titles that are a part of the sale aren't available for shipping.

Okay.

Above is the bonus disc screen.

The making-of is 37:54 minutes on the regular release; the extended version is 83:02.

Thanks for the confirmation. Good to know! It's a blind buy. It honestly didn't sound interesting to me based on the synopsis on the back of the box, but I know nothing else about the movie and something in the back of my mind kept nagging me to get it.

There's nothing on the back of the case? Does your "Making of" extra include the words "Extended Edition" on the back? Mine doesn't. (I obviously haven't opened the case to check if there are two discs, but it didn't feel like there were.)
